Here's an example of when the Apps tab might be useful. Out in the western states, it's common to run for periods of time without cell service....and that limits the utility of any navigation system that relies on cell service. But some nav apps allow you to download map data bases, just like Garmin puts map data bases on their standalone navigation products. A great example is the excellent and free 'Here We Go' which offers map data for northern Europe, Canada and the U.S. Create/add/change a destination while absent cell service? Piece of cake with Here We Go. WRT this specific app (or any other, I suppose) the question is whether it's available via Apple Car Play. Many apps are not.
