The owners manual for my 2021 3.5 EB states a synthetic 'blend' oil should be used. My wifes 2020 Escape calls for the same type of oil. I use Mobil 1 full synthetic in both vehicles. Does anyone know if the use of a 'full' synthetic oil will void the warranty? I've used Mobil 1 for a lot of my previous vehicles with no problem at all.

I doubt it. I took my '21 F150 for the first year free oil changes and asked me if I wanted Mobil 1 Full synthetic instead of the OEM blend (for a few $$ upsell). I just said no.

No it will not void the warranty.

No it should not. I have the dealer use full synthetic (surely they would mention if it affected warranty). Not sure which brand they use. I always assumed Ford had a full synthetic??? I will ask about the brand next oil change.

Check out the ford master tech on YouTube by the name of “ ford boss me”.
He says the the syn blend is the minimum spec oil that ford recommends you use. He recommends synthetic oil and oil changes every 3-4k miles in the ecoboost motors.

my next oil change will be with valvoline 5w-30 that meets the WSS-M2C961-A1 standard.

Full synthetic is accepted for warranty purposes. I've seen people have several hundred thousand miles on an engine put on full synthetic as soon as driven home from purchase.

I'm posting this in every thread I can find applicable but I just did an oil change on my new 21 3.5 EB
holy chite, guys, what a difference I noticed immediately.
The local shop had Pennzoil Ultra Platinum on sale.
what I noticed immediately

  1. slightly more response
  2. smoother ride overall
  3. quieter
  4. slight power increase
  5. no more or less lurching when throwing it into D from P (though not sure if that had anything to do with it? maybe coincidence?)

I'm 100% synthetic now.
no questions

The Ultra Platinum is available on amazon for $24.97 for 5Q jugs, free shipping to Prime.

I’ve always been told the same when it come to turbo cars/trucks and small displacement engines….I’ve had numerous WRX STI Where this has surely been the case to change oil every 3-4K miles. Just kind of been sticking with it. Ford recommends like 10k miles on full synthetic between changes. I can’t come to terms with that to be honest!

I doubt you’ll see much benefit between semi synthetic and fully synthetic if you keep your oil changes at 5k or less. There’s also been mention of trucks lasting over 200k+ on semi. Don’t get too caught up the marketing hype.
With my previous 2015 F150 2.7, PPP and ultra plus wasn’t much better than using other oils, but you’re not going to know by gauging it by your but in the seat. Do an oil analysis for a better idea if it’s better or not for your engine.

  • I note that more specifically the Owner's Manual for my 2022 3.5EB refers to Ford oil spec WSS-M2C961-A1
  • Mobil, unlike many other 'premium' oil manufacturers, provides cross-reference to many manufacturer-specific oil specs in the detailed tech sheets for each of their products (Mobil pays the fees to do the testing required for that)
  • Looking at the tech sheets for MOBIL 1™ EXTENDED PERFORMANCE and Mobil 1™ Truck and SUV in particular (copy of both attached in 1 PDF file), we note the 5W-30 viscosity of those two particular full-synthetic Mobil products "meets or exceeds the requirements of: FORD WSS-M2C961-A1 ".
  • Note that Mobil does not make that statement in regard to all of their full synthetic 5W-30 products.
Personally I find comfort in using both full synthetic and an oil that makes reference to meeting the specific Ford oil spec for my engine. I don't at all expect to have an oil-related warranty claim arise over the long-term of my ownership with a Ford 125,000 mile ESP, but I'm confident that I won't have any warranty claim issues about the use of an oil specifically meeting the referenced Ford spec IF that unlikely event were to occur.

I happen to use MOBIL 1™ EXTENDED PERFORMANCE and Motorcraft OE filters for my 3.5EB for the reasons stated above and because both are consistently and conveniently available at a very competitive price from my local Walmart. With that combination I'm comfortable following the OLM suggested oil&filter change intervals.

One person's opinion, just for your consideration.

My first 2 oil changes at my dealer were full synthetic at my request. Presume they would have told me if that would be a warranty issue.
