My fuel door just opens freely and I have no gas cap.

Ford part # ML3Z6500D Looks to be the pin and boot, but its cheap enough not sure it matters. If you find it let us know. I am sure a lot of people would like to find this.
Thanks! I could not find a picture of the thing so I ordered a couple. We'll see what I get.Ford part # ML3Z6500D Looks to be the pin and boot, but its cheap enough not sure it matters.

Just ordered two - gives me a backup since my first boot tore so quickly. $22.01 shipped, not terrible. Thanks!ML3Z6500D
That was exactly it. Mine just came and I now have the secure metal pin and a couple of spare boots for when the rubber starts to shred. Thanks for posting that part number.Only picture I can find
I figured a couple years for that boot and it would be done. The part number posted is the plastic pin and boot together. $6 is the going rate. I paid $5.75 at Village Ford Parts and $10 shipping. That $10 shipping was for the 2 I got but probably for 10 too. The more you buy the less that per piece shipping cost will be. Either way it was about $20 for 2.The rubber boot on mine split in half and fell off from a pump handle click off almost a year ago and I've been too lazy to do anything about it. Tempted to buy a few since they look to be $6 if this is the correct part and recommended place to get them: https://ford.oempartsonline.com/oem-parts/ford-tappet-assembly-ml3z6500d
Thank you very much for this postWe have the pleasure of having the only F-150's (to my knowledge) with the remote fuel door. About a month ago, I went to fill up and noticed the door was slightly ajar. I didn't think much of it, assuming I had hit the button accidentally at some point or it didn't close all the way on the last fuel stop (I was travelling, so I made a few stops that day).
I went to fuel the truck and the pump kept stopping. I quickly realized that it wasn't the pump that was the issue, but that the truck wasn't allowing fuel in. Long story short, if the release pin is engaged, it closes the overflow/breather tube on the fuel filler neck, which in turn makes it almost impossible to fuel up the truck.
Good news, the pin just snaps back into place inside the rubber boot. If this happens to you, it is not broken. It seems to be designed to break away, should there be an issue closing the filler door.
Bad news, or word of warning, if the pin is engaged, DO NOT hit the release button inside the truck with the fuel door open. It will shoot out of the hole like a patriot missile leaving the USS Ticonderoga. Close the door, hit the button, retrieve the pin and snap it back into place inside the boot.
Thanks, just found a few. Probably should have thought to look there, duh. They're not the best videographers, but enough to get an idea of what to do. Thanks!I recall seeing a video on YouTube about replacing this pin.
