Found a piece of metal in differential while upgrading the cover

Ended up upgrading my differential cover and fluids but found this piece of metal in the bottom of the differential. I didn’t see any signs of damage in the gears or signs that it has been moving around in it but it does concern me.
What are your thoughts? It looks like cast metal but I’m no expert.

That looks like either a bead of weld filler rod or slag to me. If so, it would have come from the axle housing. It probably wouldn't have been able to get into the bearings when they are moving but it could probably get between the gear teeth. On the bright side, if it had, it would have been crushed so you may have dodged a bullet there.
