After months of frustration with the fickle lack of function in Ford's vehicle tracking sytem, and the apparently complete loss of it for the 4th of july weekend, I did a little digging and found some info about the tracking data center.
Apparently, there is one employee in the basement of the Dearborn plant (basically chained to his computer) who manually enters all of the production data into his Commodor 64 database. This same computer also hosts the tracking web server via 56k dialup modem! This really explains why the tracking website has been so lousy. It can only handle about 150 connections per day.
It looks like he may have kicked the power button on the powerstrip on his way out of the basement for his one union mandated vacation of the year for the 4th of July weekend.
I hope Sloth enjoys his holiday sailing at Lake Erie and get's back to reboot the data center soon!
