It was a clever ploy to prevent truck buyers from considering a truck from GM or Ram on dealers' lots. It is a very old trick used when there is an inventory problem.

The chip shortage is the whipping boy but the problem runs much deeper and is the result of greedy CEO's going to 'just in time' inventory management. They copied the Japanese but it is vastly different considering the size of the country of Japan as compared to that of the United States in terms of transit times and this was compounded when the auto companies started to move production to the anti-union southern states and then to Mexico.

Under president Reagan the U.S. Department of Commerce actively worked to get manufacturers to leave the USA and set up plants in Mexico. The Republicans have done everything they can to kill the unions and any organized labor movements over the past 100 years. It is why workers' wages are at 1970 levels and why so many people cannot afford to feed their children or even critical drugs like insulin.

You do realize this has been in place for several years/decades now. This is not a new thing that Ford (or other OEM's) started doing in 2021.

Also, please keep the politics out of this. This is one place I can usually count on not having to deal with it

I feel for the people having to waits months on end for their truck to get built. My story? I spec'd out a 2021 on the Ford website, built a truck exaclty as I would have ordered it to be built. I spent 2 or 3 weeks looking at all the local dealer stock and viola, found a ruck with the EXACT options that I would have ordered to be built. I got the truck for 4k off of MSRP, they gave me 5K more than I was expecting in trade in value and then they threw in 2K worth of accessories.
When I went to pick up my truck, I found out that the sales guy had just started the day before and the sales manager agreed to all the pricing stuff just to get the new sales guy his 1st sale and to go through the whole process of delivery, setup, etc.
I guess I was just in the right place at the right time.

Congratulations!

There's no question that the 'luck of timing' plays a huge role even when ordering, particularly with regard to commodity constraints / 'surprise' forced feature removals and delivery time.

Even though I'm one of the many 'lucky' who suffered no feature removals and received what I consider timely delivery, I certainly have sympathy for those who did (or will) suffer those disappointments and understand that can put an entirely different spin on the customer satisfaction factor of the purchase experience.

But I can't muster sympathy for folks who suffered those first-world disappointments and then ascribes them to some conspiracy of malice or negligence on Ford's behalf.

Initial order 5/1/21 and it is being shipped to me at the moment. Dealer said it is targeted for late this month. 19 months total for a vehicle that is missing some of my key features.

In reading all of these gut wrenching posts, about not receiving an ordered truck, I've come to realize that this campaign has been one of the greatest and cruelest dupes of modern times. They knew all along the chip shortage was going to last well into and through 2023, yet pulled of this miserable stunt. I know this will never happen but it would be real nice if each and everyone of us victims could simply say, Hey Ford, "STICK IT"!
I suppose it just depends on the luck of the draw then. My MY22 XLT, 302A High, 4x4 SuperCrew, 6.5' box, Power Boost was ordered 11/22/21. It was delivered to the dealer Feb 3rd 2022, and it arrived with everything it was supposed to, no deletes. This time frame includes the week between Christmas and New Year's when all plants are shutdown.

74 days from order to delivery.

Flip side of long delivery times.

Going to Florida and not back until first of April.
My 2021 f-150 Limited PowerBoost job 1 is great since dealer, yes dealer, got it to BlueCruise.

Ordered 2023 F-150 Platinum PowerBoost. Hopefully it WON’T be delivered until until mid April. Hate to miss out on a new truck and the $2,000.00 PCO and $500.00 incentive for placing an order.

I’ll preface this with the statement that I’m not against Ford in any way. At the 6 month point of waiting on my King Ranch, I ordered a ‘22 RAM Longhorn with everything my King Ranch had and then some. I say this because it was not a stripped down, easy build. That truck was delivered with everything I ordered, at 2 months to the day. the RAM was a spectacular truck in almost every way. 6k miles and I never went back to the dealer for anything. Gas mileage sucked though. If I got anywhere near the Powerboost gas mileage it would have been near impossible to get rid of it. I traded that RAM in on my King Ranch when it arrived after 14 months from the order date. It was bumped from production several times and eventually they removed the massaging seats to get it built. Blend date was 2 months from the day I bought it, so it wasn’t on long term chip hold or anything. It came in with a huge windshield chip, the bed off-center from the cab, driver door edge chipped, and the windshield defrost duct bulging in the middle. Other than that, I really like the truck, but in my opinion Ford could learn a little something from RAM on supply chain and quality. Like I said, I’ve always been a Ford guy. This is my 5th or 6th F150/250 and my wife drives a ‘20 Expedition.

Ordered my x5 last month, built and delivered in 3 weeks from south Carolina. Going on 1 year for my gen 3.
supply and demand. i'm pretty sure F150's outsale X5's 10-1

I'm a ford guy but i'm not here to prop them up. GM has been deleting options as well. ( i cant speak of RAM) someone posted above that GM is back on track but i've seen nothing stating that. it seems all manufacturers are having this issue. some other manufacturers have said they would cut production to make sure all vehicles produced werent neutered down. I wanted a 23 (b/c i missed the 22 order deadline) but after seeing options being cut, wait times being long, and prices going up, i found a truck that met 99% of what i wanted minus color. Its the times we live in. 3 years ago and threads like this wouldnt exist.

Victim? People didn't get vehicle delivered as fast as they would like them to be, and for which Ford never made any delivery date promises. What are you a victim of? (I may have missed a post in a different thread outlining a bigger issue that you've had.)

I can't speak for anybody else's dealer experience, but when I ordered, my dealer explicitly said that it could take 6 months or more for the order to be delivered, and that they couldn't promise any timeframe at all. I knew going into it that it was open-ended, but that I could walk away at any time. If others had different experiences with unrealistic promises made (explicit or implied), that's really an issue with the dealer, not with Ford.

I'm not trying to be a jerk here and start some internet fight; I'm truly trying to understand your point. As far as I know, you have every right to walk away and tell Ford to "stick it!" Why wouldn't you be able to do that?
Agreed I was told 4 to 6 months. Ended up being 7 months. No money down or anything like that I could have walked away. They didn't care if I walked would have sold in minutes. Not sure why you would go look at another brand all the lots around me are full of used vehicles. Not sure anybody is doing any better.
