Well, had my TSB update done on Oct 10th. Everything seemed fine until 11/14 when I noticed that as soon as I shut off the ignition everything else shut down also, radio, interior light, etc. I also got a message on the center console saying to "turn off ignition or start engine" even though it was already off. Then while driving on 11/15 and error message came up saying "12 volt battery voltage was low". Called the dealer and took it in on the 16th. Technician reloaded an update, charged and ran a battery check which was all good. But, after 3 hours it is now throwing several alarms that he can not clear. “Service Engine Soon Warning”, “Pre-Collision Assist Not Available”, “Headlight Warning”, but at least the exterior lights and running boards work upon approach now. I can't get it back in for a full day at the dealer until 12/11. Please let me know if anyone has some good technical input. Dealer said that they service 4 other PB trucks and of course mine is the only one having issues. I've owned 7 other ford trucks and I have had more issues with this one than all the others combined, of course this one has many more tech features. Thanks!

Everything you describe CAN be, but I'm not declaring IS, a result of the 12V system experiencing voltage below a certain threshold.
There are countless examples on the forum of trucks behaving erratic and dealerships stating that the 12V battery "passes" their testing.

Yet those trucks immediately cleared up after replacing, or charging the battery.

At the very least, it's a matter of process of elimination. I won't waste my time troubleshooting any odd behavior from my Powerboost until I first confirm that the vast array of electronics onboard were operating in an environment of 12.3V or more.

That became so easy to do once I invested $25 and 5 minutes of my time installing a Bluetooth 12V battery monitor. Now I not only know what voltage the truck is at without even approaching it. I can be 30 feet away with it parked. It also logs the voltage 24/7/365. So I am able to witness the voltage drops that take place while I was asleep last night.

I am stubbornly committed to getting 2 years out of the factory AGM battery. And it requires me to occasionally put the battery on a charger because it is incapable of staying above 12.3V if I park it for a few days in my barn.

And for the rest of us that just want to go down the road without problem... go buy a new, off the shelf, AGM Battery for your truck! :)

Could you pass along your battery monitor info? Anyone have experience with a solar trickle charger to keep it topped off?

My battery monitor is a voltmeter. I installed it in the space where the useless coin holder had been. Oddly, despite the apparent programming discussed in many places, the system voltage tracks fairly closley to what I'd expect for a standard, good old, flooded cell battery.

In thread #34 above you show a screen shot from what looks like a cellphone, correct? If so, what is the app?

That's OBDLink Android app using the OBDLink MX+ adapter. (an dedicated extra phone without a SIM. Not my personal phone)

I'm an admitted PID nerd. Have been for a couple of decades.

Bruce wouldn't the negative connection be better on the truck side of the BMS sensor see what the truck sees

I purposely want to see what the REAL voltage is, and not interested in the truck's BMS opinion of SOC.
I actually don't think the voltage reading will differ on either side of the sensor/shunt. The real purpose of that sensor is for the truck to keep track of the current traveling through the sensor. It includes that information in its algorithm for charging strategy. But both the truck (BMS) & the little Bluetooth voltage meter see the same voltage.

I went to fetch the truck from the barn a few minutes ago.
THIS IS EXACTLY why I think these trucks get misdiagnosed by dealerships and they don't know that the battery is potentially the culprit because it momentarily is not providing adequate voltage. And it only takes a moment, a crucial moment to be exact, for the truck to experience some crazy behavior.

Note the timestamps of each snapshot. This all takes place quickly.

I take a reading of the static voltage BEFORE approaching the truck.

Looks fairly good, right?
(other than the fact that 12.56V is considered 67% SOC, but Ford's BMS thinks the battery is about 80% SOC)

Ok. Now ALL I do is walk up to the truck. I haven't touched anything, but it wakes up to the FOB proximity.

Immediate voltage drop!

CrAzY, right?

This is why I do the now infamous "2-step" Powerboost starting technique. (It's not because I have ever been stranded by SSN)

I hit accessory power only.
Immediately the DC/DC converter (electronic alternator) kicks in and provides a healthy dose of LV voltage to the entire 42 module ensemble that makes up my truck.
Gotta love the Powerboost for this ability! I wish my Nissan Leaf EV did the same.

Makes me feel better every time I see that 13V+ BEFORE I hit the start button. 🤣

I then hit the start button and the BMS says "maybe we should increase the SOC of that AGM".

Yea, you do that please.
(better late than never, I guess)

I'm a Dutchman, cheap as they come! and i understand wanting to get the most bang for your buck. But for 150 bucks, the price of a fancy dinner, you can put this problem in your rear view mirror and never think about it again! Smile 😃

You know me by now.
I could never not think about it again.

I could put a brand spanking new AGM in the truck and I will STILL be monitoring it. I'm hopelessly wired to. Figuratively and literally. 😳😉
