Looks like a patent, wonder how many updates it will get....
Ford Self-Tinting Windows & More: Patent Pending - ceoutlook.com
Ford has filed a patent for automatic tinting windows, as well as patents for a few other features that may be noteworthy.
The automatic window tinting patent calls for a computing device that monitors the vehicle’s location and direction (toward or away from the sun) as well as the sun’s intensity to automatically darken one or more windows.
The computer determines the thermal load of the sunlight via the car’s sensors and measures the “intensity and a direction of sunlight” and then adjusts the tint of the window(s) or window shades. The tint is a photoelectric film applied to the glass’s surface.
The patent was filed on March 31, 2017 and published on January 23, 2024 and assigned US patent number 11,878,575. Note that publication of a patent does not mean it has been granted.
Two other patents filed by Ford include a window-mounted screen and a trailer cam that monitors the contents of a trailer.
In the latter example, a newly published patent describes a camera that mounts inside a trailer that can detect if the trailer contents has been moved or shifted around, said Ford Authority. The patent was filed on June 21, 2021, published on March 5, 2024, and assigned serial number 11922641.
Another interesting patent was published on February 27. It is a door mounted screen that enables the driver to communicate with someone outside of the vehicle. The screen is mounted externally and connects to a user interface inside of the car, as well as a mic, speaker, cameras, and sensors.
The system can tell if the vehicle is stopped and if someone outside is trying to speak to the driver. The patent was originally filed on April 29, 2022, and assigned serial number 11914914.
Again, publication of a patent does not mean it has been granted.
