Got a flyer in the mail yesterday since my 2021 F150 Powerboost is about to hit 100k soon (at 97k now) and my ESP expires at 100K for a Ford Protect Continued Service Plan. Anyone use this before and is it worth it? Seems like extra insurance on failing parts but seems pricey for a year of coverage. Almost $2500/yr for the Ultimate plan. I paid like $1200 for ESP PremiumCare and never had to use it but having the unimproved CDF drum worries me a bit. I put about 100 miles a day on this truck so it's almost like ticking time bomb for me. Looking at cost for transmission rebuild seems to be at least $5500 if that's the case, I can eat that cost and not go with any CSP plan.

Thoughts on this?

In the past when I bought extended warrantys my thought was make it Fords problem and where is my loaner..My budget could not take the shock of a huge repair bill. Add in the fact most of the time I had one vehicle it made sense to have it. Any truck with 100 K IS a 'Ticking time bomb' with the complexity of newer trucks if you are unlucky. Make sure your mantince is up to date so you won't be denied if you have a claim. So many different factors matter to get it or not but in the end..Do you feel lucky?

At that price point you really need to do a cost to benefit analysis for yourself. We've seen much higher mileage w/out issue. You could preemptively acquire and rebuild a trans -- you don't have your engine listed. Alternatively you could just BOLO for a 23+ trans w/ low mileage to have on-hand from a wrecked truck. If you play your cards right, you could land one around $2k and only be out labor when it's time.

Look at zeigler, Granger or flood
They can sell continued plans
You may have to pay for the inspection part. Usually 2hrs at a dealer
I have done that 3 times
Lots less than what Ford advertised
And it's same plan

Not a bad idea on a wreck 23+ truck. That might be the way to go. Hopefully by the time it fails, I'll be in a used Lightning as my daily driver. I have 2021 3.5 Powerboost Plat with the Max Tow... All the good stuff and bad! Still waiting on that Max Tow fix from Ford too. And the pending customer satisfaction program for the heat exchanger too.

Sans the CDF issue, you're doing precisely what machinery likes -- using it regularly.

That CDF issue though it really seems to be a roll of the dice. If a lightning fits for you, it's an easy choice IMO.

Hmm, I not seen this before, thanks for posting.

I ran the VIN-specific price calculator for my truck at its current odo miles which already has a 10-yr/125.000 mile PremiumCare ESP ending in 2032. Here's my resulting quote:

Ford F-150 Ford Protect Continued Service Plan - worth it? CSP QUOTE 3-2-2025

Then I called 833-781-7353 to learn more .....
  • You cannot buy a CSP until your current ESP is within 3-months or 5k miles of expiration, whichever comes first (so, the quoted price above is literally meaningless for me / my truck)
  • When within 3-months / 5k miles of current ESP expiration, the price will be based on the then-current actual age and miles on the truck, and will be much higher cost.
  • There's not a way to buy this CSP 'early' to beat inflation / price increases like with an ESP.
Attached FYI are the current Terms and Conditions for the CSP, I was warned these can and do change over time.

All just FYI.

I'm not saying I'd never buy any sort of extended warranty and I sure do get why people think they should, when certain repairs can be 5 digits but I can't, not think, that you're betting against an insurance company and they have reams of data we don't have and teams of lawyers and actuaries and almost never lose.

Which is probably why the prices climbed ~25% just on the last price increase and another is already looming.

Hit the 100K club last weekend. Decided against getting another warranty extension. Didn't even use the first one and the extension on the extension is not worth the monthly cost. I'll use that money for other things of interest. Overall, the truck's mechanicals have been reliable so far. The only problems I've had were software related. First 30K was in and out of dealer for various issues that made me want to trade it in but glad I stuck with it. I averaged 18.2 MPG for the last 70K miles with little towing and mostly highway miles. Could have been better is if I was lighter on the pedal.
