This is similar to what will happen with the oversaturated market of Software Engineers and Developers in the future once these companies achieve what they are looking for with autonomous functionality and AI. Every trait has an expiration date, and when the time comes to lay off folks, to feed greedy stakeholders and top executives nobody cares about the hard working employee who has dedicated years or decades to the company. A proper company would use these folks and cross train or find a function for them to keep going and continue their salary or increase.

The executive want to cut the fat and it is always the people who actually do the work to design and make the products for customers. Chrysler and Volkswagen have had similarly misguided executives and the end result was 10 years of lost profits.

Rarely does the upper management have a clue about how their products are produced. One notable team was David Packard and William Hewlett and the results speak for themselves. Unfortunately the incompetent board members brought in Carley Fiorina who tanked the company with her very dumb decisions. The PC division barely broke even and yet she traded HP stock to acquire Compaq, another PC company. Thousand of workers built up the company and she tore it down in few years. Same think with Gerstner at IBM and Amelio at Apple.
