Ford Invites 2021 F-150 Owners to Virtual Interview with Engineers - What Questions, Feedback, Complaints Do You Have?

I recieved an email today asking if I would like to participate in a F-150 virtual meeting with some folks from Ford. I was a bit unsure of the email so I called the phone number. I spoke to the company who is a third party and coordinates these feedback events. I was told they usually do them face to face however they are using zoom meetings due to COVID. I asked how many meetings they are conducting and was told the first round was 25 of the F-150 owners. Not sure how true that is.

I will be sitting in my truck when this meeting happens and using my phone to point issues out.

Whats really crazy is I was getting ready to start a "Am I to picky " thread about some of the trim and moulding pieces, the screen flicker ect. So this will be a great way to showcase those complaints.


Please list a few questions you would ask if you had the opportunity. I have my own but if I have a chance or find questions that will help us get some issues resolved I would love to echo your concerns and or positive feedback.

My meeting is the week of March 15th, this is what I came up with so far

I will show them misaligned interior pieces, and tailgate molding.

Love the seats but wish they had more length on the front side. The heating part will cook you out.

Screen flickering problems but I love the size of the display

Wifi...I have the Hotspot activated but it keeps connecting me to no internet connection part of the wifi.

Alarm going off at all hours

great list - form - fit is a good one. I would bring up the issues of customers having bad batteries and dealerships having to replace them - a lot to do with the Phatom Battery Drainage. A good question is where are all of the Recall & Update notices posted at (a running list).

Love the ford app pass also. Needs a few tweaks.
That has your recall info on it but i get what you are asking. The battery drain thing was also something I was going to bring up

I would also ask them about:
-remote start on key fob of all trim levels since ford pass app isn't always the fastest. Plus the truck is literally tech savvy and should be able to handle it.
-easy down on all trim levels for the tail gate.
-the recirculation timing is ridiculous. Wife doesn't want to smell the outside world it she doesn't want to.
That's pretty much it bc the wife and I love the truck minus those few small things they could have added on the lower trims like GM did.

And one more thing, the auto/start stop being able to be turned off permanently if wanted.

My truck is back at the dealership for the third time. To date, nothing has been corrected. Give them hell for me as well. My Support Specialist actually said to me: "If anything isn't covered under warranty, I'll talk to my supervisor and see if we can help with the costs at all".... "WRONG ANSWER" I told him.

MY LIST:

FAULT CODES:

• XM Hardware fault.
• Vision system camera
• Private communication network
• Left mirror heater output
• Right mirror heater output
• Battery voltage
• “Reverse Brake Assist Not Available” error on dash panel

OBSERVATIONS OF OTHER ISSUES I HAVE EXPERIENCED:

• “Recirculation” on climate control turns off after only a five minutes of operation
• Air flow through dash vents very poor or non-existent on occasion when both the dash and defrost and/or floor is selected.
• Body panel fitment: Tailgate when closed protrudes from the rear quarter panels at outer edges. Hood gap, passenger side towards cowl. Rear passenger door.
• Rear bumper not centered between rear quarter panels.
• Engine makes excessive noise intermittently, a growling rough sound when accelerating. Other times the engine is smooth and quiet.
• Performance seems to be affected intermittently, does not accelerate as quickly and does not appear to build much turbo pressure randomly. Typically observed when the engine is making excessive noise.
• Lane departure system has failed randomly.
• Center 12” screen gets excessively hot on occasion; have measured at over 123 degrees with a thermal-imaging camera that I own for my profession.
• Center console lid does not stay in the open and upright position; very annoying to have the armrest lid fall on your arm as you are reaching in.
• Digital speedometer and dial gauge speedo are 1 – 2 mph off from one another when over 50 mph.
• Center screen icons went all black randomly.
• Experience multiple hard upshifts and downshifts. When accelerating or decelerating normally.
• Rust on the rear axle since brand-new
• Burning plastic smell coming from the climate control system.
• When approaching or just standing around the truck, loud “clicks” occur. Sometimes this occurs just a few times, other occasions it persists. This has also occurred when just sitting in the truck with the ignition off. An absolute annoyance and I do not understand why this truck makes these sounds. The sound is similar to solenoids activating.

Bring up not being able to get rid of the right part of the screen, you should be able to make CarPlay full screen and not have that extra screen on the right.

Bring up being able to to keep the truck in whatever mode you left it in. If I’m in sport I want it to start in sport mode and not have to switch it every time I turn on the truck.

The cluster not saving your settings and having to reprogram them.

Can you ask if they will offer the front parking sensors as a dealer add on at some point? It was somewhat of a cluster early on, and i was not sure how to get that feature on my Lariat. By the time i figured it out, i could not get the 360 degree camera and the co pilot 360 active prep added, as it was too late to change.

What settings are talking about on the cluster?

When I'm in eco mode and turn the truck off, it will prompt me and ask Return to Eco mode? Does yours do that in eco or does it alway default?

This being my first F-150 I'm not sure if this is just part of owning an F-150 or if it's actually a problem others are noticing but here are a few of mine:
- If for some reason I have to slam the brakes, there's a pretty aggressive downshift almost like a clunk but not a clunk
- Truck shudders while idling
- Alarm issue that others have pointed out
- Wireless Apple CarPlay connectivity is spotty at times. The music will cut in and out.
- When I remote start in the afternoon, I'll get in the car with the ventilated seats full blast even if it's 30 F outside
- Double-honk when you get out with the key and the truck is running is going to make me commit murder at some point, don't understand why we can't turn that feature off. I can't imagine there's such a pandemic of people who leave with their car still running that this can't be an option.

Just a few of mine, I'll edit if I think of more.

I twice now have been driving and I have to stop and shut the truck off to get the heat working- warm engine running fine but ice cold air blowing out vents. Pull off, shut the truck off and cycle the door. Then start it and have heat.. also have issues at times with Apple car play not connecting.

Anyway to turn the reverse chime off on powerboost
