I would totally option the new tailgate. It looks super useful.
I do agree with the previous post that a Ridgeline style gate would be even better. Probably too wide though.

Looks to me like the designers were like, we got no new idea's. Lets just take the GM tailgate + Ram tailgate, and combine that into a single Ford tailgate that has EVERYTHING!!!

I know I'm too old school for this crap, just give a standard tailgate for my truck please...

Hope you aren't worried about payload, that looks heavy and it will require electric assistance to get it up and down.
That's what she said....

I'm told that the tailgate is so complex, the Stamping plant doesn't even want to assemble it and it will be sourced completely to an outside supplier.

I’ve always liked Ford’s tailgate step but GMC’s MultiPro tailgate really sets the bar on what can be done. I like that Ford is looking to up their game, but that particular design isn’t going to cut it.

Just don't open the step of you have a hitch ball in the receiver.

Not sure this design makes any sense. If you need to open 3/4 of your tailgate, you're more than like need to open the rest lol. For what I do day to day, the best tailgate is GM's muli-pro. That being said, I would see it being useful to some. I see more problems than anything. At the rate Ford is going, it will be on their website in 2030. Hopefully by then, I can see what my 2022 is going to look like right before I buy the 2030 model lol.

My view is that Ford made the best tailgate step on the market. The Ram split gate is nice because it lets the bumper be the step; utility simplified. It seems to me that GM fell over themselves for something to compete and had their marketing department overengineer some very inelegant additions.

With the latest generation Lariat and up trims adding power-close to the tailgate, I think Ford still has the market leading tailgate solution. The only way adding a side hinge to the tailgate could make the Ford more usable is if it opens wide enough for a pallet truck to load a pallet into the bed easier.

This way they can compete with GMC and Chevy for a funny commercial. The way I see those two brands is it highlights the only thing good about the $XX,000 truck is the tailgate. 😬

What is complicated about it ? Looks pretty easy to me
actually. This will come in handy for the people who really need it.
The multiple hinges, handles, latches all with the potential to fail/break.

...or freeze! LOL
like door handles ? lol shit goes wrong no matter what . This looks like a pretty easy design to me. Again its not for everyone but if you need to get as close as you can to the bed , this is a great idea/along with the RAM. I think all 3 have a unique design and do something special. Good thing is these are all options
