I just cut off 7 inches and no more hitting garage and it doesn't whip as much at high speed. Reception unchanged.

I did the same thing. I had the antenna off my 2017 that was brand new. The antenna's are identical. I cut 5" off and put the little ball back on. I have about 1/2" to the top of the garage door.

Did you order your truck or did you buy from stock? Just wondering how much over/under invoice they are willing to go. I'm familiar with Mullinax and I know they typically have their lowest price on the windshield.

Bought one last week after reading this thread. Showed up next day through Amazon and reception is fine. I'll keep the whip in case it fails at some point, but my guess is that I'll just have a whip in my garage for a couple of years.
