Hi all,

I just finished applying Fluid Film to my 2021 XLT’s frame. I am wondering if putting some in the doors and rockers would hurt the truck. Aluminum does not rust but it does corrode.

I'd recommend ACF50 for aluminum

One of the best products you can use for your frame is Cosmoline. It is not a product that needs reapplication every year. They still find WWII metal equipment that was covered in cosmoline and after removing it (with difficulty) the parts are like new.

A product that is close to cosmoline is Valugard 160, which is used by some Line X shops that undercoat. Valugard makes a number of different undercoats but that VG 160 is the one you want if you want someone else to do it for you. Cosmoline you can get in rattle cans or for a sprayer. The 360 degree wand is needed for inside the frame.

Cosmoline is definitely an excellent long term protectant. I’ve tried to clean more than a few old surplus military rifles that were packed with it to know just how well it preserves and protects. It’s nasty stuff but it certainly works well.

I just picked up some Amsoil Heavy Duty Metal Protector to give protection underneath. I was going to have the LineX product applied, not the black rubber undercoating, but my local LineX doesn't offer it.

I used a 6 cans of fluid film using their long flexible nozzle to get inside the frame. The nozzle sprays a circular pattern. Here I haven't decided about the outside of the frame and Aluminum yet. The FF does attract dust and makes the frame look brown (Utah) but it also works great, so I probably will continue. Will look at the Amsoil product also.

Edit: Just found out fluid film black is available. Probably will go that route.

I dont like anything that continuosly needs reapplication.

Value Gaurd is a wax/oil based product that does not trap moisture, but dries to a certain point. Also self healing.

Called around and found a line x dealer that uses this product.

Sucks the closer dealers did not, but an hour drive is nothing compared to the protection

Will any of these coatings hold up to the under spray of a car wash? I live in the snow belt and have been debating getting an undercoating vs running through a few washes in the winter

If I was going to protect the bits and bobs of my undercarriage, I’d probably use this once and forget about it.

What are your thoughts on using this on a rusted (from the factory) rear axle?
