This is part of my ongoing redo of the factory exhaust system, but it has enough general appeal that I'm making an independent thread. I finally got rid of the hybrid exhaust heat exchanger (for whose who don't have a PB, it's a coolant loop that an electronic gate can put into contact with the exhaust to warm the coolant on demand, and its built into the section that is normally just pipe and the resonator), which freed me up to start changing stuff. I had them pull the heat exchanger/resonator unit out as once piece in case I needed to go back, and then weld in a Flowmaster 3" DBX where the resonator went on the factory system and did a side exit just in front of the passenger rear tire. The DBX has an insulated exterior beneath the stainless, so its only warm to the touch, and I wrapped the rest of the pipe with DEI wrap. Fullrace is making manifolds for the new 3.5, so I'm going to do those, and will also have high flow cats put in. The most important part will be wrapping the exhaust where its close to the transmission, as I believe that radiant and convective heat between the exhaust pipe and transmission is a big source for heat soak when towing heavy.

Anyway, the point of this post was the exhaust tone, which I find to be audible but not obtrusive in the cab and having a throaty quality that I like. I know that a lot of folks ask about exhaust tones on the 3.5, and I was pleasantly surprised by this one. My alternative was a 70 series at the stock location if this proved too loud of obnoxious but honestly it gets lost in the wind and tire noise on the highway.
