I've been doing some reading about adding floor mats over the factory vinyl floor and I can't find everything I'm looking for. I am going to buy the OEM mats but want to know if anyone has installed the factory retainers. The red floor covering in the image below is the vinyl floor option. It looks like the parts listed below, HC1, HM1, HM2, and HX1 are all I need to do the install. Am I thinking about that correctly?

If you order the floor matts from ford, they come with all the hardware needed.

Fairly easy install.

So I admittedly messed up installing my front mud flaps due to Ford's slightly confusing instructions so I'm hesitant about these damn floor mats. Below are the instructions that came with the retainer clips. Am I correct in thinking I just need to use the template to put two small slots in the vinyl floor so the retainer clip can slide through and clamp back onto iteself?

The more I think about it, I think I'll just get some 3M Command Strips and use those to keep the mats from sliding around. If that fails I'll look into using the OEM retainers.

Also, the mats are super nice.

I'm looking into doing this as well. I think 3M tape might work but the clips would be the best way to do it but ya it makes sense to me that you would need to cut a couple slits in the vinly so the hardware can clip back together. Did the mats come with the clips or did you source them separately?

They came with the clips. I haven't done anything to secure the mats yet. My wife's is the only one that moves due to how she gets out of the truck so I'm definitely in need of doing the velcro. I'm not cutting holes in the vinyl floor.
