1st oil and filter change at 500 miles to dump build lube, RTV, sealents, and initial wear metal particles. 2nd oil/filter change at 2000 miles for the same reason. 3rd oil/filter change at 5000 miles, and every 5000 there after. 5000 mile interval because I don't mind using the turbos here in Washington State - hills, hills, hills with this typical payload...He ain’t wrong……..
Lake Speed Jr has also spoke of a very early 1st oil change as well and no greater than 5k oil changes
Trend analysis……. aviation industry has been testing engine oil for many decades. I was pulling oil samples from engines forty years ago. It's not a waste if they identify elevated levels of a particular metal, mineral, or other material that points to something on the brink of failing -- and resulting in a catastrophic failure that will cost you much, much more to repair vs. an occasional oil analysis. That's actually the biggest benefit of getting your oil analyzed.
That’s pretty much what I’ve done.1st oil and filter change at 500 miles to dump build lube, RTV, sealents, and initial wear metal particles. 2nd oil/filter change at 2000 miles for the same reason. 3rd oil/filter change at 5000 miles, and every 5000 there after. 5000 mile interval because I don't mind using the turbos here in Washington State - hills, hills, hills with this typical payload...
LOL, 'Poor and Tortured'. We share Kitsap County then, a little ho bokun back woods place in the woods on the outskirts of Seabeck. We love our simple truck, it's been good to us.That’s pretty much what I’ve done.
Where in Washington are ya? Wife has family near Poet Orchard and north of Spokane
Great to hear you’re doing well with it.LOL, 'Poor and Tortured'. We share Kitsap County then, a little ho bokun back woods place in the woods on the outskirts of Seabeck. We love our simple truck, it's been good to us.
Mix driving. 70% city, 20% highway and 10% towing. Unless somehow I end up with a few million dollars, I am planning to drive this truck to the ground so to me frequent engine oil change is a lot cheaper than an engine job! Additionally, there is a lot of engine on and off on these truck due to being a hybrid and in frigid temperatures, in my opinion, the oil life decays faster.I will check out that valve and skid plate. 8,000km seems rather short. Are you doing a lot of towing or city driving?

My observations included getting a Fumoto drain valve & 2 foot clear hose. Now all I do is slide under the truck on a creeper, flip the drain valve lever after pulling off the antiflip device, connect one end of the drain hose to the nipple and the other end into the oil bucket. Very simple procedure.Hello. How are you?
Completed my first DIY oil change after 10,000km / 6,200miles on my 2021 2.7 Ecoboost Lariat.
Here are my observations / questions. Did it in -16C weather with Pennzoil Ultra Platinum, Motorcraft oil filter.
- Location of oil filter is fantastic.
- Location of oil fill and dipstick is challenging.
- That small O-ring is a pain, like everyone said.
- Replaced rings and lubed them in oil before putting back.
- The splash guard on the bottom is so cheap, if you live anywhere with snow you need to go with an aftermarket skid plate. Can anyone recommend one?
- Location of drain plug is a bit annoying and oil just gushes out on the the crossmember and underbody.
- Rhino ramps helped as the running boards are a bit low.
- My drain plug is red, some people have yellow? Should I replace it? Can anyone recommend one, preferably with a valve.
- Drained oil hot to the touch, let it drain for 30 minutes but it was still drip drip drip.
- Couldn't wait any longer.
- Filled 5L (5.28 qt). Ran the engine for 5 - 10 minutes. Let the engine sit and cool. Checked oil, dipstick is useless, as Pennzoil UP is so damn clear.
- Added remaining 700ml of oil once engine was cold.
- Reset oil life was easy
- Hats off to Ford for making this process easy (but messy)- I would rather spend the money on high quality oil over a dealership's labor. Total investment in equipment was around $200 with a combination of used/new from FB marketplace / goodwill (ramps, funnel, sockets, carry crates, measuring cup, jumpsuit, gloves).
Any questions / feedback welcome.
