I fix software bugs!
I have an STX with manual seats. There isn’t any way to raise the seat like a power seat can. When I sit in either seat, it’s comfortable but you sink. I checked out an XLT and those seats are firmer with bolster on your thighs and back.

Any ideas how I can fix this? Big job? Others workaround this? I feel like I could slip in a thin <something> underneath the seat foam to keep it from swishing through the wires.

Thanks.

While I don't have a solution I'll weigh in and mention that my 21 XLT seats are nothing to brag about. The bolsters are a firmer foam than the seat bottom (as you mention) which severely limits your ability to adjust the seat bottom at all. If I lower the front of the seat with the button I can feel the seat frame rubbing against my left thigh; it's miserable. If I wasn't planning to trade the truck in for one with adaptive cruise I'd go have an upholstery shop to have the bottom cushion refoamed...my 2 cents

Suggest you take your truck to a competent auto upholstery shop (or several) and have a talk with 'em.

The good ones can work miracles, often within the confines of the OE cover and at surprisingly reasonable rates.

Good luck.

I had a tapered piece of foam added to my seat. Fixed my issue of sinking in too far.

Find a 3/4" mattress foam topper, take the cover / foam off of the seat (must be removed from truck) and place it between the seat's foam and the seat bottom. That's the easiest method for firming up the cushion roughly in this area. This is what you'll see when you take it apart.... Notice how the foam can smash into this area here.

Compare how the passenger seat feels, it has the OCS underneath it which puts a gel pad and some cheap looking carpet pad sandwiched between 2 thin pieces of plastic sheet that provides a stiffer ride.

I must be the one person in the world that like the XL/STX seats better than the XLT and higher seats.

My 2015 was an XLT 300a, and it had the same seats as the XL's and STX's. To me they felt more supportive and "grounded" for lack of a better word.

The electric seats seem on my 2023 302a to be "top heavy" so to speak. I like the ability to adjust them more, but I honestly prefer the feel of the manual seats.

Before ordering my truck, I test drove every model from STX to 301a, 302a, a couple lariats and even a platinum and all the electronic seats just felt weak

I hear you… grounded is a good word. I owned a 2023 for a week (don’t ask) and while I sat up “higher” I did feel as if I was on top of the seat vs sitting in the seat. I’m 5’9” and my truck is leveled and I think that has some effect on me seeing over the dash and hood. Perhaps that’s all it is….

I have had my truck since mid July. 2023 XLT 302A.

In the past 2 weeks I took my first of many multi-hour trips each way. A 3 hour and a 5.5 hour trip. Man, after the first hour or so I was absolutely miserable. I'm coming from a 2015 XLT 300A, which had the same manual seat frame/body as the 2015-2017 (and maybe newer ones?) XL and STX trucks, but allegedly with upgraded seat foam. I took many 12 hour+ at a time trips, including a 19 hour one-way trip last March and never had any discomfort.

I need to figure this out. I have a 16 hour trip coming up in December and a few more in the 3-5 hour range.

I also think the "feel" of the manual adjust seats felt more "grounded" to the truck. The electric adjust seats add a layer of obstraction which I do not care for. It feels like they have more "play" in them. Especially when getting in and out and when on rough roads or bumps

Those of you who have had your seats modified by upholstery shops, were they able to keep the OEM heated seat functionality in them?

My wife absolutely has to have this due to hip and back issues.

My new 2023 xlt 302a is waiting at granger for me to pick up. This gives me no hope the seats will be better haha but oh well. Try being slightly reclined with seat back leaned back with the front of the seat lifted. A truly strange seating position but it's one of the only painless settings I've found. FWIW I have seat spacers in the rear of the seats.
