I have a 2021 RCSB with a 5.0 and 3.73 axle

Coming of age in the early 60’s I amassed – one year - $600 dollars in speeding tickets when tickets were about $15 to $20 and there were no points applied against my license for speeding.

Over the years I have owned driven a number of high performance cars ranging from Corvettes to Hemi Challengers and anything else that I could buy.

A thing that I appreciated was the sounds of the exhaust at full throttle.

Now, some 58 years later I still enjoy “romping through the gears” as we used to say. However, the exhaust sounds coming from the Ford at full throttle do not ring true.

My truck has a stock exhaust so is relatively quiet but the sounds when at full throttle don’t match what I think they should be.

Does anyone know if Ford generates fake exhaust noise through the sound system on a 5.0?

Thanks

Like you I'm nearing my expiration date and miss the sounds from the old glasspacks we used to install. I can't speak for the 5.0 but I also have besides my F150 a 2021 Explorer ST and it does indeed have the fake sound coming through the speakers. Not sure but I thing BMW was the originator of this and when they got caught the lies started flying.

Next level is the companies will start providing videos of how to make realistic "vroom-vroom" sounds with your lips. What a sad ending! 😢

I also have the 5.0 with the 3.73 gears in a regular cab and I can’t tell if there’s fake sounds or not. The stock muffler does a great job of keeping things quiet at low throttle openings. The majority of the sounds in the cabin at wide open throttle are from the intake and you can hear some exhaust sounds, especially when you are driving by a wall or underpass.

You might be tempted to think that it’s fake because it sounds pretty good. Almost like the foley sounds from the chase in Bullit, where you can hear the driver upshift 8-9 times; matching the number of hubcaps that the Charger loses! :p

I echo that the 5.0 is the only engine option in the F-150 lineup that does not use exhaust sound augmentation

I like watching videos of guys that review cars that have yet to shave for the first time that say “WHOA LISTEN TO THAT ECOBOOST EXHAUST”

my response

Too much information for me to process all at once.
The fake engine noise is NOT used on the 5.0. There is a post with a link somewhere on here. That is an Ecoboost thing.

Remeber, with the dual overhead cams, it will not sound like an old school single cam V8.

No fake v8 noise on the 5.0’s. Just glorious coyote noises

I like to let my Oldsmobile idle in the driveway as I lock eyes with my Neighbor washing his Tesla..

it’s the little things in life that make me happy

we have the same power train setup. Do you have 4x2 or 4x4 and what’s your payload?
I have a supercab 4x4 and mine is 1998 lb

the 3.73 must absolutely rip in RCSB

My truck is in the 141” wheelbase, 4x4 with the HDPP package and 8’ bed, which makes for a mighty stiff ride empty. The weight is 5,020lbs with a full tank of gas and me in the driver’s seat.

You can get a 5.0 RCSB in RWD at 4,300lbs empty, though that’s probably with the 8.8” differential housing which weighs less than the 9.75” options that are available when optioned out with the 3.73 ratio.

It’s probably quite the handful with nearly 18” less wheelbase and probably around 250-500lbs lighter than my truck depending on if there’s 4x4 or not!

When my tires are nearing the end of their usefulness; I plan on seeing how the truck is with the traction control off.

Wow that’s a serious rig!! Didn’t realize you had the long box

i think you’d cook the tires for as long as you want with T/C off and a bit of an incline!!

Here is a good video of what a 5.0 with a Borla S-Type exhaust sounds like. A Corsa Sport or Magnaflow Street Series would also sound similar.
