My 2022 Powerboost with the same issue, started to hear this funny noise on rear passenger wheel when going under 10mph and today I took the car for a regular oil change, they showed me the broken bolt. They kept the car and I'm waiting for a call from the dealer tomorrow. After all my issues with this car, I can see how I won't be holding it for too long. So sad and dangerous for such an expensive car. I guess it's time to search and join for some class action suits against Ford.

PS: It seems there's something similar going on with Explorer: https://fordauthority.com/2023/06/ford-explorer-class-action-lawsuit-filed-over-rear-axle-bolt/

This is a completely different issue in practice, though yes, possibly similar in concept.

It has to do with the mounting bolt for the rear differential given the Explorers IFS. The F150 bolt is on the end of the axle.

The Explorer issue looks like a mistake in where to spec the single vs double bolt. The true issue with the F150 has not been discovered.

I just did a quick search and indeed they can be completely different issues.

I haven't got time to read all the posts, but as an engineer, this problem seems nasty. I don't want to speculate what's the worst that could have happened, but next week, we had scheduled a 5k miles travel with a 28ft travel trailer, so I'm just going to let others describe what would have been the risk, considering the extra weight might have towed.

The fact that Ford doesn't know yet (or pretend to not know), just for the amount of people that reported it here, makes the whole story worse.

Fortunately, we haven't seen any reports that I know of that resulted in any kind of dangerous experience while driving or towing with this axle bolt issue.
Of course that doesn't mean there wouldn't be a longterm risk of driving with a broken bolt.

Has this happened to anyone that does not have the max tow package?

I can confirm that I have the Max Trailer Tow Package. Today I picked up my truck, I have attached the explanation.

Now I'm hearing a clanking sound from the left rear wheel at slow speed. Started last week, but I've been on a road trip and haven't been able to check it. I'm back now and need to pull the rear wheels and see if I'm another victim. 🤬 PB MT 15k miles
Well that did it. I had an old plastic work badge that is a little more flexible than a credit card and it worked as you described. I only checked the driver's side. I'll check the passenger tomorrow. I'm officially on the list. My dealer's website says next available appt is end of December. I'll call them tomorrow and see what they can do. Thank you!

First pic is what it looked like when I got the cap removed.

A few miles under 15k.
Checked passenger side this morning and it is still tight.
Update... service called me back. They can see it on 12/2 and already have a loaner/rental on hold for me. And that works since I'm leaving town Friday for work for a week and get back on 12/1.
UPDATE: Dealer just texted and said:

"Hello, we ordered rear axle shaft and bolt for you. It was ordered earlier and should be here on Monday."
Got truck back this morning... so quiet now. :)
Well, 10 months later, I'm just under 24k miles, and noticed a little clanking again only because I opened the windows due to it being a bit cooler finally. Yup, this time it is the passenger side. Called dealer, earliest appointment is Nov 21. They will also order the parts for the open recalls and have a loaner ready.

Sorry you had to experience it again. Hope you get it back quickly. Let us know if the dealer gives you any new information or update.

Good luck.

Dropped it off last week. Picked it up today. They replaced the axle. So now I have new axles on both sides.

They also did the rear wire harness recall 23S35 and wiper motor recall 22S71. But now the driver side hits the A pillar when on medium to fast speeds. They are going to send out a mobile repair person to address in the next couple days.

Also told them that I was getting some hard shifts between 1st and 4th during half throttle from stops. This is what they did.

I don't know what all that means, but it drove good when I left, but all I keep thinking was this is what I imagine the tech doing....

Whatever the tech did completely changed how this tranny drives. It is buttery dolphin smooth like my Hondas now. Wow. 😀
