Like most of us, I love the Raptor. Unfortunately for me, I need more payload and towing than what the Raptor provides. I'm considering the F-250 with Tremor package. It's not the Baja jumper the Raptor is, but it still has heavy towing and payload limits. Of course, it isn't as nice of a ride as the F-150.

So should I try to find a F-150 build that can handle at least 1,700 lbs payload and 9,500 lbs towing - or just give up and get a F-250?

The 2020 F-150 is rated at up to 3,230 lbs. payload / 13,200 lbs. conventional tow, properly configured (SuperCrew , 6.5’ box, 3.5L EcoBoost , 4x2 and Max Trailer Tow Pkg.). Other configurations are rated at slightly less.

You can also add aftermarket airbags to improve the stability of the rear end if you choose, or perhaps an easier to install add-a-leaf to the leaf spring pack to achieve the same result, though that will reduce your suspension flex a bit. A year or so ago, I came across a special Long Travel Airbag system specifically designed for the Raptor, improving its payload/towing capability when inflated, and leaving it completely unimpeded when deflated. I'll actually be looking for this system again later this year when my own 2021 Raptor gets delivered.

So technically, the properly equipped F-150 will tow/haul what you need, but it will never do so as easily as a properly equipped F-250. If you choose the Tremor option, I'd recommend going with the new 7.3L Godzilla V-8 over the 6.7L Diesel given the loads that your stating. It's early in its life yet, but it's shaping up to be quite a good engine, and all of the off-road assessments of the Tremor Package put the performance of the 7.3L Godzilla better than the much heavier 6.7L Diesel.

The whole payload conversation is spot on for me as well. And this supercrew with 3200lbs payload seems to be a unicorn in the market if you want a higher trim than XL. I'm searching all over for Lariat-King Ranch ranch trucks that are crew cab and they still range from 1300-1770 lbs of available payload. Even worse is going the realization you could go from a 2020 F150 KR at $58k with 1700lbs to a 2020 F250 KR at $76k that only has ~2200 lbs payload. How disappointing for this price increase! Any families of 4-5 (750 lbs) with a camper (850 lbs tongue weight) are still limited in the F250 to put anything more in the truck. For me, we're still undecided...bigger price tag than i expected so need to lower my wants at the F250, apparently.

I was in a similar boat as you. Need a similar payload and tow capacity a few times a year. f250 is just too big for any use other than towing.

1700 lb payload should be pretty easily doable with the right spec. I looked at a few ‘21s this weekend. A 701a platinum (1588 payload) and a 501a lariat (1724 payload). Both were 5.0 and 4x4. Both also had the double sunroof (70ish lbs) and fx4 (unsure of weight, but the skid plates add something).

That said, neither had the max tow which actually might decrease payload, oddly, so I’m debating that option on my build.

I think I will order either a 700 platinum or a 502a lariat with no moonroof and no fx4. Hopefully that is close to 1700 lb payload.

If you do a 700 4x4 no sunroof no fx4 you should be right at 1700 based upon my calculations. I have a 701a with max tow, bed liner and tow mirrors and I have calculated I should be at 1584. If you drop the tow mirrors that’s 15 pounds, bed liner 45 pounds, fancy tailgate 45 pounds, all the other 701a goodies prob another 15. Should put you just north of 1700.

What are you calculating max tow weighs/decreases payload by?

Max tow decreases 26 pounds vs no tow + 36 gallon.
Thank you sir! Surprised it isn’t more frankly with the axles and bumper. Is there additional cooling as well? Or do they come standard with oil/trans coolers?

So the "fancy tailgate" I cannot reverse engineer yet for '21. For the gen13 years, just the tail *step* adds 40# (though it removes 7 lbs from front axle). I cannot find mention of power tailgate from the F150 series. Did you find what the motorized tailgate adds?

From what I have gathered there are 3 tailgates (I could be wrong!):
1. Normal, no work surface, no tail step
(1b. Normal with tail step in prev gen was 40#, but no longer available on gen14)
2. Work surface with tail step
3. Work surface with tail step and power lift

#2 is probably similar to #1b, but I don't know that motor impact on our upper trims. Maybe someone knows?

with these never ending delays, thinking of going with a f250 for camping and the such and then just getting a small EV for around town stuff.

I have to say the 250 Tremor package is a NICE looking vehicle...I don't have the real need for a 250 (aside from a couple back country camping trips each year) but I strongly considered it before ordering my F150 just because they look so damn good.
