Calculated 1 or 2 mpg lower on 87. But with only 2900 miles the jury is still out...

In all honesty, I'm not getting 24mpg with my 5.0.

Highway speeds (70-75) over flat land (North Dakota/Minnesota) with no wind for a 500 mile round trip in an FX4, 6.5ft bed SCrew I averaged 22.6 when I calculated by hand. However my average since new (never rest it since picking it up ~3400 miles ago) is 18.4 as of this evening.

If I go that fast and there is ANY headwind, that number drops. FAST.

However if I compensate and drive slower (60-65) with a slight headwind, I'll average about the same.

If I'm not in a hurry and want to see what I can wring out of the truck, I'll go 55. With a tailwind at that speed the best I've gotten so far is 27.9 hand calculated. But as soon as that tailwind is gone, so is the advantage.

It's all about how you drive it and what the conditions are. There are a ton of variables that are going to affect your averages. It's less about WHAT you drive and more about HOW you drive.

You leapt to far ....... internal combustion engines are what currently resides in the F-150. Motors are what will move the Lightning.
Yeah...sorry about that....signed up for the F-150 Lightning EV sub-forum and forgot it's mostly an ICE palace.

I drove about 640 miles on the highway with my 5.0L for a road trip and got about 24mpg averaging this speeds. Hoping to do the same on my way back today

That average is really good.....so far, just driving around town, I'm averaging about 17 MPG...with Platinum Edition 5.0 (1200 miles on truck so far)....anxious to get it our on the road for a lon trip....

I averaged about 21 mpg for my first tank of 87, combination of around town and highway, no city rush hour traffic. I just completed a 600mile trip at 75mph and averaged around 24mpg. I am driving a Supercrew 4x4, 5.5 box ,3.5 engine, 3.55 axle, trifold cover, and am using 87 gasoline.

I can't speak for the '21 yet, but my '17 is quirky. It's a 2.7, 4x2 SCREW with 3.73s. Four year avg, according to Simply Auto, is 21.4. Most of my driving is from the house to work, 63 miles RT with 58 on highway and an occasional hop to Miami and Tampa. Usually around 21 mpg to work and back and 24'ish on the longer runs. I just did a run up to Harpursville, NY and had a few legs over 26 (one was 27.6) with A/C off. My truck is pretty consistent with consistent conditions. Headwind, MPG decreases big time; tailwind the opposite. I've also noticed traffic makes a difference. I work redeye and with heavy traffic that's running fast, I get better mileage than the same speed with no traffic. A/C is worth 1.5 to 2 MPG on mine. I usually run 92 octane, but will use 89+ octane ethanol-free.

I'm really curious to see how my new truck does. I'm expecting an overall decrease around 2 mpg since I'm getting a 3.5 eco with 4x4. Someone mentioned using Fuelly so I'm going to start. It has the same features as Simply Auto, but shows overall data for make, model, engine etc. We'll see.

According to Fuely users for 2021s
2.7 is 18 MPG 2021 Ford F-150 MPG - Actual MPG from 13 2021 Ford F-150 owners (fuelly.com)

3.5 is 16.5 2021 Ford F-150 MPG - Actual MPG from 39 2021 Ford F-150 owners (fuelly.com)

5.0 is 17 2021 Ford F-150 MPG - Actual MPG from 18 2021 Ford F-150 owners (fuelly.com)

Not that big of a difference between the 3 MPG wise. Get what engine makes the best sense for w
what you plan to do and that you like best. I was all in for the 3.5 because I thought it would get better MPGs. Not really the case and gets worse MPGs than the 5.0 when towing. I'm now in the 5.0 club because I plan to tow 3500 lbs and prefer not having turbos to potentially replace down the road.

How do you like the 5.0 in the Platinum? I ordered the same but I’m still waiting. I never even had the chance to drive a 5.0 as a test drive. I only got to drive the eco boost just to get the overall feel of the truck before ordering.

I've been reading these mileage reports for all the engines except the 3.5 and the diesel and I'm pretty much convinced if you drive 68-72 MPH on the highway it doesn't matter if you have a 3.3, a 5.0 or a 2.7 you are going get 24 MPG. Do you guys think that's about right?
What gears do you have 331 or 373 ect?
