Only problem is this looks like it has not been updated since June 2020. A lot has changed since then with the introduction/rollout of the MME.

That said, however-- they are actually NOT that far off on the numbers(at all)...Ford is at 141k thru Q2 2021.

:(
What is the source of the 141k number? This is the first time I have heard that Ford had sold a significant number of qualifying vehicles. Thanks!

Ford's official filing with the IRS is 141,834 EVs sold thru q2 2021. That's the important one because that is the number on which the EV credit is based.

IRC 30D – Plug-In Electric Drive Motor Vehicle Credit Quarterly Sales | Internal Revenue Service (irs.gov)

As a gentle reminder, the EV credit is applicable for two quarters AFTER the quarter the mfr hits 200k. So if Ford hits 200k in q3 2022, the credit would apply thru first qtr 2023. 50% of the credit would apply for q2 and q3 2023.(Hypothetical)

All this subject to change depending upon what come out of Congress next few weeks...

Wow so Ford is only selling ~7,500 EV a quarter in 2021? I might be able to get the current credit after all.

Yeah - the majority of Mach-e's are going to Europe because they have stricter emissions targets than the US. Current projection is that Ford hits the 200,000 number in Q4 2022 or Q1 2023. Full $7,500 credit would end 2 quarter's after that under the current rules. Who knows what will come out of DC between now and then.

Is the 141,000 reported sales count for US or Worldwide? It makes a difference in my mind. The common sense goal of the rebate is to encourage US EV sales, so only US sales should count, right?

Thanks for the link! I had no idea Ford has been selling electric vehicles that long. Now I need to research what plug in cars they were selling... I really thought they had most of the 200k yet to go.

Right off hand

Ford used to sell the Focus Electric along with the C-Max energi and Fusion energi PHEVs. (All in small mumbers).

I think currently they have the Mach E (which by far is the biggest seller) along with Lincoln Aviator and Cosair PHEVs(grand touring) and Escape PHEV (all the PHEVs are just now hitting the market)

Not that small, looks like 20k per year from 2013 to 2017 which is a lot more than I was aware of. Dropped off in 2018 but picking up again 2021.

Let's say the tax credit gets approved by Congress. Will it go into effect as soon as Biden signs it?

Most likely it will go into effect for 2022 if it passes late this year or early next year. If it gets drug out past mid next year, who knows.
