Same. I rent a fair amount of cars and most have it and I could not care less. I figure it’s designed to do it and most cars it’s pretty seem less. I have a PB so it’s not even an issue for me. My wife has a 22 equinox and the stop/start is so smooth if I’m not looking at the tach I’m not even aware of it half the time. Lol.Never understood why people hate it. If I have to sit in traffic rather save some fuel. Love that my 21 has it.
I do understand your point but i'm sure the majority wouldn't want to take auto start stop at the end of the day Lol. I'm not sure on how it works with other automotive makers but my Ram keeps A/C on while auto start stop is enabled. The supply constraint excuse Ford keeps using is well past it's prime at this point. They have had years to sort this crap out and continue to fail to do so.
It's not that big of a deal really. It's easily circumvented with Forscan or the various adapters on the market. The one I used in my Ranger would remember the last state the Auto S/S switch was in so if it was turned off at vehicle shut down, it would be off the next power on event or vise/versa. I don't mind it on the PB since the AC continues to run when at stop lights where the traditional ICE variants stop and when it's 100 outside it gets warm pretty quick.
https://www.f150gen14.com/forum/threads/2021-f-150-forscan-list-database-spreadsheet.1578/Do you have a link to the Forscan instructions to disable it? I looked for a while and never found a working solution.
As a pedestrian and cyclist more than I am in my truck, I wish more vehicles would have it. Unfortunately, all it takes is one old jalopy or some dickhead to tune his just off lease 2019 BMW to backfire at idle to ruin the air quality that is only possible because of all the tighter emissions controls.Auto start/stop is one of my favorite features on my F-150. I've sat in traffic for hours without burning fuel except as necessary to keep the system charged. Saves pollution, saves fuel, less time on the engine in idle… all good.
The people who actually like auto start/stop and consider it a feature instead of a bug probably also eat glue.
There’s a button front and center on the dash. Problem is; that you have to remember to press it every time you start the truck.Based on the banner of the post, it seems like there’s a button to disable it?..
A problem with this is if you are rear ended in traffic, you’ll be launched into the car in front or the intersection rather than just getting a folded up rear bumper in a lower speed collision.Another way around the start stop is not to push the brake all of the way down at a stop...
My 21 doesn't have it and I'm glad. To me, that's just a weird feature. I tried the 'hill hold' feature and thought it was weird as well.
I guess they both have their places..
Which is why there’s a switch on the dashboard.@Pedaldude ...but in light stop and go traffic if it's constantly turning on and off again...
I agree with your take. I don't mind ASS being there, and I don't mind it being turned on by default, but there should be an option to disable it off. Having to turn it off manually at every engine start is annoying.agreed.
I wouldnt care if they made the ASS control a regular switch. leave it off or leave it on. your choice. not every time I get in.
its the one delete in my truck I was excited about.
I put one of those AutoStop dongles in my 21 Ranger. the ASS worked like it should. it remained in the position I left it. And there were a few times in heavy stopped city driving I gave it a try, let it do its thing. But it was my choice (jeez, I sound like a protester ). So I get it. some people like it. for me its not worth it, I dont commute in stop and go traffic.I agree with your take. I don't mind ASS being there, and I don't mind it being turned on by default, but there should be an option to disable it off. Having to turn it off manually at every engine start is annoying.
So you would rather change your driving habits and deal with ASS? I shouldn't have to leave more room in front of me in traffic to accommodate this bs. Sure I guess it could be effective, if I'm being charitable, during a 5 minute traffic light but where I live that isn't the norm. I agree with you that it takes all of us to do our part to not pump the atmosphere full of co2 but the real solution is electric vehicles, not ASS on a combustion engine. Let me guess, you also think your active air dam saves you a ton of money on fuel...it's a bunch of bs that ford uses to look better in the eyes of the EPA and whatever else 3 letter agency can get them grant money/tax credit. Yes, a simpler solution would be to have a setting within software to disable it through the touch screen but clearly ford isn't interested in doing that because it would hurt their bottom line. Luckily my truck had it deleted from the factory and I got $50 off the sticker price.Which is why there’s a switch on the dashboard.
Besides, in light stop and go traffic; try leaving a little more space in front of your truck. Just make sure to scan the adjacent lanes for dickheads trying to hop lanes.
I’m surprised that your AS/S functions. My truck always has Max AC selected, even in the winter to keep recirculate on so that the shitty highway air doesn’t get pumped into the cab. It’s not like it gets cold in Phoenix.
It really does need a better threshold for activating, as it’s annoying as hell when it kills the engine when you’re just pausing to check for cross traffic at the end of a residential street.
It’s definitely effective though for five minute traffic lights and was crucial for the one tank that I got 20MPG on. It’s not so much the individual savings on emissions but the cumulative effect. Unfortunately, it only takes one Mitsubishi box truck with bad rings and worn spark plugs to undue all those gains.
I took an eTransit out for a test drive and it’s truly a miserable experience driving around a 3-ton golf cart. If things like auto stop/start, cylinder deactivation and hybrids keep V-8 trucks on the road longer, then I am all for it.
It’s how I’ve always driven, mostly a habit from most of the vehicles that I’ve owned having manual transmissions. I’ve gone 60K miles on a set of brake pads. I don’t like stopping; even if the engine stays on.So you would rather change your driving habits and deal with ASS?...Let me guess, you also think your active air dam saves you a ton of money on fuel...
