Not a direct comparison, but I had a 2020 Ram with the 23 gallon tank after I had my 2017 XLT 2.7 with the 36 gallon tank, and I missed the bigger tank every time I pulled into a gas station. Didn't tow much, but it was nice to get a few weeks from a tank of gas and still having a little left as opposed to NEEDING to fill up once a week. I'd go for the bigger tank unless you really can't wait.

Have the 26 gallon tank, guess I won't know what I'm missing. When and if I tow it will be with friends towing other toys with their trucks so we will be stopping randomly anyway since there will be at least a couple of people in each truck. It was a consideration however with the mileage these things get now I'm way above my old SUV's range which had a 28 gallon tank. After missing out on another truck (with the 36g tank) through a dealer trade that fell through when this one came available it was not big enough of a deal for me to pass up on this truck.

Go with the 36 gal tank! I had it on my 2020 with the 3.5EB and would’ve gotten it on my PB if it was an option but it comes standard with a 30 gal.

I would never be without the bigger tank. Not sure why they don’t include that as standard honestly.
All about that "starting at" price! Even though no one buys a base truck in any trim, but it sure bring em into the dealership.

First time I've got the extended range fuel tank. Would 100% do again. It's so nice to have almost 800 miles of fuel range should a hurricane or other natural disaster occur.
That’s my thought process exactly! Might be able to go out and use the A/C and ventilated seats on occasion!

While I loooooove having my 36 gallon tank and making less trips to fill it, I will add a huge pain in the ass gripe: I ALWAYS HAVE TO SWIPE 2 CARDS WHEN GETTING GAS!

I don't know if it is just California? But pumps always have the "security" feature that limits to say $75, $95, or $100 before you have to swipe again. And if you do the math, you can see how at >$3/gallon I can never fill 36 gallons, it is JUST out of reach.

To make matters worse, if I am not in my home city, my stupid cards will flag the transaction and I cannot swipe a 2nd time immediately until calling or answering a text or email. So I have to use 2 separate cards, then clear the fraud alert when I get back in the car.

LOL, this is very true. When gas prices were higher that’s exactly what would happen to me.

If there’s ever a zombie attack or some messed up movie-type shituation where there’s no where to stop for gas you’ll be glad you got the big tank.

I never let mine go below 90% full unless I’m on a road trip and holding out for the next gas stop.

I have a 2018 XLT 2.7 with the bigger tank and I don't think I would ever go without it. I usually get 550-600 miles before fill-ups and yes I fill it every time. One of the best "upgrades" Ford offers in my opinion.

I've had both. My 2007 had the small tank and the 5.4L. It was rare to get 300 miles out of a tank. At the time, I drove about 80 miles a day, and it was an inconvenience to fill up every 3rd day. My company 2013 5.0L has the bigger tank, and I can get just under 500 miles out of a tank. All of our company owned F150's (3-2018 F150s and 2-2020 F150s, mix of 3.5EB and 5.0) have the larger tank, except for one salesman that I rent a pickup for. His 2020 Lariat 3.5EB has the small tank, and he averages 60k miles a year. It takes longer to review his expense report...he's filling up nearly every day, and sometimes twice a day when he's out on the road. He really dislikes the smaller tank! For me, I won't order one without the bigger tank.

I had the 36 gallon tank on my '17 3.5EB. I plan on a powerboost with the 30-gallon tank and it annoys me I can't get the 36 again.
