2023 F-150 Lariat PB 502A Lotsa Chrome Miss the SuperCab
Well, it was a nice 2 months without any issues. It's really too bad how much I like the '23 Lariat PB I got in July because this is getting old. Noticed the check engine light came on while driving home this morning. Pulled an OBDLink report and P2C23-00 was there. Heat exchanger I guess from searching the forum?

So far, these issues have been fixed during the 6,500 miles since July; 1) Full Accessory Power Mode, Stop Safely Now no start condition which stranded me six times, 2) phantom messages due to faulty trailer brake module, 3) lane centering/lane keeping failure due to 2 bad cables, 4) Power tailgate inop during cold weather fixed with new module, 5) tailgate handle replaced per recall, 6) rear wiring harness additional insulation. Fortunately, the dealership has been great and I was given loaners while issues were worked on.

I'll have to consider eating dollars and replacing the truck after this gets resolved. I need something reliable. This is approaching how bad the '72 Fiat I had back in the day was...

Here to join the faulty heat exchanger club.

2021 xlt 4x4 with 22k.

Powertrain fault/reduced power came up leaving the driveway a week and a half ago. Went away when I turned it off and on and never came back on. A week later the dealer read it and said I need a heat exchanger. They ordered on Friday, it got here Monday.

No driveability issues at all. Coolant level where it needs to be and no leaks detected so it's not the fittings. I had the ICE to EV and back squeak before it but the noise actually has not been present since I briefly got the code.

Have an appointment to get it replaced tomorrow. The truck is driving perfectly, has been the entire time. The Squeak has come and gone for several months but never happened at service so getting the code is actually lucky as it ended me having to argue about or prove whether there is a problem.

I asked them to listen for the squeak in addition to reading the code and they never heard it and told me they'll keep checking, not realizing it's the same problem.
OK so on visit one they diagnosed heat exchanger and ordered the part. On visit 2 they kept it most of the day then said it has to come back for a catalytic converter to complete the repair. After a short back order that arrived and it goes in Monday for hopefully the final time on this. Is the catalytic converter usually a standard part of this repair or did the failing heat exchanger maybe cause an issue there?

So annoying, by the time I get the call the people who have details of what's going on and why have always left for the day so I only get the 30 thousand foot view.

Although 220F is above normal, that's only 4° warmer than normal operating temp for the 2017-2020 3.5 Ecoboost.

If the exhaust heat exchanger did malfunction and continued to introduce heat into the coolant, I'm not sure it would be enough to overpower the cooling stack. But maybe eventually it could.

Still, Ford wrote code to treat that fault as though it is an overheating event. I just don't think it's injuring the truck, thankfully.

I live in a tropical region. I despise that exhaust heat exchanger. 🙄😁There's a couple of fellas who have been collecting the information and necessary components to potentially bypass the crazy thing. Can't happen soon enough for me.
Has anyone figured out how to remove the heat exchanger and bypass it yet?
