I purchased a 2022 F150 3.5L Powerboost Hybrid in February and noticed a coolant leak below the heat exchanger attached to the exhaust pipe about the middle of my truck in March. The defective part has been on national backorder ever since with no idea when it will be available. I have opened a case with customer relations but the frustrating thing is they can't even tell me where I am in the que or even confirm if anyone else is has gotten their part from the supplier who promised to ship 36 pieces per week starting 04/25/22. I go through about a quart of coolant each week to keep it on the road. I was wondering if anyone has had this issue resolved. I have attached a picture of the leak.

A 2022 Powerboost in February is right in the heart of the time-range for the fellas that have reported defective heat exchanger leaks.

The dedicated thread (linked above) has a generous participant ( @TN Rotty )who is tracking all the trucks reported with the malady. Although I think there are some outliers, there's a healthy percentage of the trucks in a limited build time-window.

I personally think that even if your truck didn't receive a defective exchanger at build, the design has a narrow margin of error and I wouldn't be surprised that with time a non leaking exchanger could become a leaker.

I'm far from being known as a pessimist, but I really don't trust those black plastic components keeping their shape-integrity in a very hot environment longterm.

You’re luck that yours is still drivable. My dealership deemed mine as un-drivable. I’m going into my 4th week without my truck. With no end in sight. I also have a open case with Ford costom relations. Ive told them I think they should make my truck payments until I get it back and offer an extended warranty….

I agree Ford should extend the warranty. They should also make or at least suspend payments without interest. I was able to get a Loyalty Debit Card in the amount of one payment so far. It has been leaking coolant for 3.5 months now. I keep hearing my part should be shipped any day but nada.

I have been meaning to report that I finally got the defective part replaced a couple weeks ago and so far so good. That was almost 5 months after the leak first started. What a hassle it was to refill the coolant on a regular basis. Here's hoping it lasts this time around. Would be interested to know the success rate of others in getting the defective part replaced.

I’m having the same issue. Truck not drivable. Does anyone know the mfc part number and where they are located? Shocking this is a problem! Love the truck, but these decals and defects are frustrating! Understandable in some respects cons this was built in the middle of a pandemic. Still, Ford needs to make this right! Frank

The part number is ML3Z 5A212V. I have attached a schematic showing the exhaust extension and location of the heat exchanger. Hope the dealership can get one in to fix your truck expeditiously.

Engine light came on the other day so I took mine in today, turns out it was the same heat exchanger coolant leak. I'm still waiting for Ford to fix my powertrain malfunction from last month. Fourth time in the shop now since May of 2022.

Have they replaced the exhaust extention that has the heat exchanger yet? After mine was replaced, I have not had any problems to date (fingers crossed).

Update: ordering heat exchanger, backordered for an unknown amount of time. Fun times!

Sorry to hear that. If you have not done it already, you should contact Ford customer service. No guarantee it will speed things up but they might compensate you in someway for your trouble. Also, they will hopefully be able to keep you informed on the backlog and timing.
