Hey guys, looking to add a dash cam. The plan is to put the rear camera in place of the factory bed camera so that it can be used as a bed camera, but also will give a good vantage point for the rear recording. I'm wondering if anyone has maybe put a camera in place of the factory front one to do the same? Also, would it be a better idea to maybe try and use one of those dash cameras that replaces the factory rearview mirror? Thanks!

I got a Redtiger duel camera using the rear view mirror dongle for power. I have not installed the rear camera as of yet though but am happy with it so far.

I would agree out of all the stand-alone dash cameras that don't use a display the Fitcam is the best one as it ties into the factory rearview mirror wiring and hides well into the factory mirror. If I was going to use a dashcam that didn't use a display it's definitely the one I would choose.

Found this on Amazon to power my Nexar dash camera. Must have a dimmable mirror for this to work. Tees off a USB power outlet from the mirror for your dash camera to have power. No tapping power or cutting wires.

The only thing with this though is it doesn't give you key-off power correct? I'm wanting to get battery power up there so that the shock sensor works even with the ignition off for when the truck is parked.

Fitcamx is the best plug and play cam I’ve seen for the new f150s. As long as you have the dim on your rear view it takes 5min to install, looks like it is factory and can run at 4K. Just check out the review and install video on youtube. I bought one and it’s great.

I went with a Viofo A229 Pro. It currently is among the best available for image quality with a 4k front cam and 2k rear cam. I used a hardwire kit with fuse taps because I wanted parking mode.

think ware u 1000
you opened pandoras box on this question

i like mine, yes it can be quirky to log in to think ware to see the camera if truck is OFF and your away

it does use a OBD daisy chain cord so you don't loose obd port
i am happy with mine.
i would suggest see as many as possible in REAL life then bounce your needs to price
mine was less money and 2 cameras than what ford has on its accessories website

I went with the Garmin Mini 2. I installed a USB converter in the passenger foot well fuse box area and ran the wire up the a-pillar in the wire harness clips so as to not interfere with the air bag. Mounted behind the mirror making it almost hidden from the cabin.

Yeah, I definitely want the parking mode for if someone hits the truck while it's parked and I'm away, or if someone tries to break in.

yes mine has parking, "touch me" mode and a few others
the touch me mode (not real name) is very sensitive, you can adjust to be less or more
i imagine all will do this as well

at home i have to turn off touch me and parking as the wind blows the material around my carport and it records for 3 minutes at each occurrence so battery gets used up

but when we are out or stay over at hotel, its ALL on. it tells you when you start up, how many events it recorded

Digital mirror/dash cam setup showed up today as well as both Morimoto third brake lights. After comparing the two, I've decided to use the camera bezel from the digital mirror with the non-camera Morimoto third brake light for a few reasons.

First is because the camera equipped third brake light has about half of the cargo bed light compared to the non-camera third brake light. You can see in the pictures the camera mount takes up a large portion of the middle of the setup which is where the cargo bed light is.

Second is because the camera equipped third brake light the camera points much lower towards the bed and won't allow for much visibility behind the truck for the dash cam. You can see in pictures the angle difference between the two. The digital camera actually has two different camera angles in it, one that angles further down into the bed, and one that angle further upwards to see behind the truck. With it pointing at the angle the factory camera mount is it won't have enough visibility behind the truck.

Third is because I would need to Dremel the heck out of the Morimoto light to fit the aftermarket camera. It is setup for the OEM camera with how it mounts which is very different compared to how the aftermarket cameras mount. I would then have to use gasket sealant or something to seal it back up, and I just feel like that's a ton of work to potentially make it look factory, but have less cargo bed light as well as the camera behind at the improper angle to see behind the truck clearly.
