Thanks, everyone, for the input.

Out of curiosity, I ordered a Borla S-type system for the truck.

Once it arrives and I get it installed, I’ll post my thoughts on whether the system stays on the truck or ends up on eBay.
You will not regret it in my opinion. I have had the Borla S-type for almost year now on my 23 5.0 and love it. No drone at all and while I do notice the CD, it is not bad at all. You will forget about it once you step on it :)

So you mention "no drone" but then state "I do notice CD" (cabin drone)...

I had a Ford racing sport exhaust (made by borla) on my mustang 5.0. Loved the sound, got a lot of compliments on the sound and a guy that knew me rolled down his window so he could really hear me when I passed and then told me about it later. In the long run i wished I had purchased the touring version though, a bit too much noise while cruising down the interstate.

My rcsb is still on order, for you guys that drive in sport mode, is it a big fuel economy killer? Does the transmission still go to top gear when cruising at 55?
In sport mode mine won’t go into top gear unless I’m over 65 mph. Same with tow/haul mode. Someone said their mpg didn’t suffer but that is hard for me to believe. I never had nerve to try it for a hole tank full. Once you get up to 55 mph you can put it in manual mode to be in high gear .

I’ve got the Corsa extreme side exit on my 2024 RCSB.
And CD is VERY noticeable to me and sounds like crap. My solution is to drive in sport mode 95% of the time. Though the transmission tuning in sport mode is very stupid. It especially likes to hang in high rpm’s anytime I play around a little. But I can live with it over all just to enjoy the nice sound the Corsa gives.
BUT I will be tuning my truck as soon as it’s available for 2024’s. Besides the obvious power benefits, it will allow me to drive in normal mode and not worry about the stupid CD.

I just installed the S-Type today, honestly, I'm disappointed at how loud it is. Watched lots of videos and msg folks. Just seems too loud for my taste. I'm going back to the stock and then re-evaluate my options, live and learn I guess.

My truck is a 2021 F-150 XLT with a standard cab and six and a half foot bed (122 inch wheelbase). 3.73 gears with a 5.0 engine.

Out of curiosity, I bought a Borla Type S exhaust for the truck.

Removal of the stock system was not all that difficult. The stock system is held on with two bolts at the converter flange and three hangers along the length of the system. After removing the bolts, I used a pry bar as instructed by Borla to move the system off of the hangers. Upon doing this, the whole system fell off and onto the brake lines at the rear axle. The exhaust heat shield tore the vinyl or plastic cover that encases the lines. I checked for other damage and coated the exposed area with POR-15.

The Borla system went on relatively easily. I work alone. The muffler is not overly heavy but with me lying on my back with one side of the truck supported with a jack stand at the front spring hanger, maneuvering the Borla muffler over the rear axle onto the Ford hanger was difficult. I ended up using a ratchet strap over a frame member to support the muffler so that I could get the hanger inserted.

The Borla system is relatively quiet when driving with the windows closed on a near level stretch of road but the sound increases as the engine is under load such as going up a hill or passing someone. This is to be expected. I suppose that with additional time with the system I would get used to it but with the rear sliding window open it is pretty loud.

I noticed was that my gas mileage dropped by about 1 mile per gallon on my normal 150 mile round trip to visit family. This was not because I had my foot in it. I drove as I normally do. I didn’t expect a mileage drop.

I was curious as to how bad the sound changed when the engine switched to cylinder deactivation and how it sounded during normal use.

When I first installed the Borla system, I was listening for the sound of cylinder de-activation and I did hear it. However, as time with the system progressed and I wasn’t specifically listening for it, the de-activation became less noticeable and blended with the overall sound of the exhaust – just a different sound.

I found that the sound of cylinder deactivation could be silenced if I pressed the “Manual” button on the gear shift. Apparently manual mode turns cylinder deactivation off

I asked my son to drive by while I was on the side of the road so that I could hear the sound of the exhaust from the outside. It has a nice growl at low to moderate speed. It sounded a lot like the Mustang I saw that caused me to purchase the system originally.

I liked it. However, not enough to negate the cost and process of installing a sliding rear window because of the loudness of the exhaust system.

I’m planning on selling the system.

"Tuning the 5.0 is worth it.
For the sequential transmission shifts and the C/D removal makes a big difference.
Some extra punch as well. "

one of the benefits to the Whipple upgrade, the tune deletes CD and Auto/start/stop and includes a trans tune to clean up the shift tables.

Tow/haul will never hit 8-10, also Tow/haul will really mess you up with braking. Will always down shift and can be a pain if your not use to it. Some people have just taken out the resonator or muffler. Running one or the other. Cheaper and easily done at any muffler shop. Could also delete both and just go with a new muffler less restrictive one. Just search this site severalthreads on this

Anyone have an issue with OTW updates over writing your tune? Just read some articles on it

"24 RCSB. I'm running an MBRP exhaust (# S 5211304) and it sounds great and I have yet, in almost 2K miles noticed anything with the CD. This is my 2nd round with an MBRP product and they're a solid company with great cust. service. Installation is tinker toy simple and they give you a choice of running the resonator in the front or just clamping in the included straight pipe. I've got the resonator in, but I'm thinking when we do my 1st oil change I might take it out just for fun.

My whole cat-back cost $824 in stainless (upstate NY....snow,salt....), but if you don't need that feature, you can get the same system for $520 in aluminized steel. At 500 bucks, you could give it a try and I'd bet it will be hard to get the grin off your face!
I'm curious to see how you have your resonator. I have a 2024 RCSB with a MBRP dual mid side exit (in front of rear wheel) and I don't think I have room for a resonator.
