Hello Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone out there with a high mileage 2021 F-150 has had any cylinder deactivation issues? Honestly, it’s the only piece of technology that worries me about the 5.0 coyote. I have read horror stories about GM’s 5.3L v8 with cylinder deactivation issues becoming more common once they reach around 75K miles. I have a 2021 F-150 5.0 with a 3.31 gear ratio with a factory built date of 5/2021. I purchased my truck at the dealership with 8 miles on it in 7/2021. I’m at 25K miles with no problems, I perform oil changes at around 4k mile intervals. So, anyone out there with a 2021 F150 5.0 with more than 50k miles? Any issues?

Thank you

i f*cking hate when my truck goes into V4 mode. i keep it in sport or tow/haul so that it always stays in V8.

No problems here at 19,000 miles. I f***ing love it when I see the mpg shoot up to 30 mpg. Running Eco mode 90% of the time. It's a great system and I haven't read of a single failure. Btw I'm following the oil life monitor which is about 8,500 miles between oil changes. I may get a used oil analysis on the next one.

Always driven in NORMAL
Can’t really feel the cylinders drop out, but can feel when they become active again.
Only real issue I’ve had so far is the auto Start/Stop quit working and the truck goes into “deep sleep” occasionally overnight.

start/Stop was just repaired and I was told it had something to do with a solenoid inside the engine. Perhaps it was affecting cylinder deactivation, but I don’t really know.

I'd really like to develop some kind of sensor to figure out when they're deactivated. Can't be hard.

I wonder if it's always the same 4 cylinders that shut off or does it change.

If you wanna hear it, add exhaust. I hated my Magnaflow catback when the CD engaged.
I know Livernois makes something to tune and turn off, just wished they made a smaller CD module or tune only, to turn it off. $800 isn't bad, but I really dont need a tune. etc

I just tuned my truck with Livernois and deleted cylinder deactivation. You really have to listen for it with a stock truck, but with the aftermarket exhaust it was really noticeable, so much that I put the stock exhaust back on. 8000 miles on my truck before the tune and had zero issues.

Man is it that bad? I'm definitely an exhaust guy and that was one of the reasons i thought about buying a pre 2021. I dont want it to sound bad. Does sport mode keep cylinder deactivation off all the time?

I have a Mustang (in addition to my 21 F-150 5.0) and I like hearing the exhaust as much as anyone but who wants to hear a constant, loud exhaust at highway speeds? For hours and hours of highway driving? Personally I want the exhaust to pretty much disappear at highway speed otherwise it gets really tiring even on my Mustang.

I don't think the cylinder deactivation starts unless you are under light load above something like 45 or 50 miles an hour right?

You better have them replace the battery before it leaves you stranded. I was sent home once when they told me the battery was fine and it went into deep sleep again. After they they replaced the battery and everything was fine. That was my 21 Ecoboost that had less then 9000 miles at the time.

Yes sport mode will keep the cylinder deactivation off.

I’m extremely surprised by how much cylinder deactivation kicks on after installing a Borla exhaust a week ago. It kicks on ALL the time, so much so that I can’t believe this thing isn’t getting another couple mpgs than it gets. Sounds really good until that deactivation hits then it sounds similar to when you roll down the front windows without cracking the back window (buffering I think is the correct word). Also comparable to when a helicopter passes over your house. I’m debating taking the exhaust off and returning it too.

5.0 sounds so wonderful with exhaust, I wouldn't pull it off. You will lose the exhaust note you wanted plus take a loss on selling your exhaust system used.

I have gotten use to just flipping the truck into tow/haul mode and no CD. I've also been thinking of getting a Livernois tune but haven't jumped yet as I also keep flipping on the idea of installing a Roush Supercharger.
