I have a few 3.5 f150 ecoboost engines that suffer from startup rattle. It is caused by lack of oil pressure to the cam phasers. My 2011, 2016, and my 2022 is just starting to do it. I have replaced the phasers in both my 2011 and 2016.
My solution is to depress the throttle all the way thus putting the ecm in flood mode. Cranking for a few seconds until the dash shows oil pressure then release the throttle the engine starts with no initial rattle.
I'm wanting the ecm to delay power to the fuel injectors until oil pressure is adequate.
I know I can easily do that by tapping into the oil pressure switch and using that as a cutoff.
I can do it but most others can't.
A software fix might work.
This is what ford did with a service fix but they then stopped.
