EDIT/NOTES:

a. I did have to trim the four prong ball adapter due to Tireminder not using industry standard prongs. Theirs are thinner. I got a precision needle file set from harbor freight to thin the prongs on the Tackform mount.

b. To reach the inner mount screws for the Builtright dash mount, I had to use a ball end hex key due to the angle needed to reach. Didn't have any, so grabbed a set from harbor freight as well.

c. Here are close ups of the patch cables. On the left is the Garmin to 12v disconnect. For this one, I cut the cable that goes to the dock. The Garmin can also be powered by a traditional USB. You can see in the first picture the USB plugged into the unit. But by using this cable, it is hidden in the second pic going to the dock. I made a disconnect with the Furrion plug too. I was able to source the correct 3.5mm x 1.35mm right angle plug, so I didn't have to cut the cable that came with it. With this system, any type of 12v or USB device type changes means the dash is ready and don't have to rerun home run wires through the dash if a new device requires a different 12v or USB plug type. And lastly, a 1 foot right angle USB cable for the TPMS. In the pics above, I was test fitting a regular USB, and now this one is perfectly sized and cleaner looking.

I'm not even looking at diving into this, but I love the detail and that you provided links to everything you used. Kudos and looks like a great setup.

I plan on doing similar for the trailer camera monitor but I figured I'd just set the alarms and toss the TPMS in the console.

I'll use the onboard screen for the nav.

Nice work. Thanks for sharing.

The big beautiful 12” screen on your dash can’t provide navigation?

This Garmin RV GPS is specifically designed for RVs and towing by routing based on length, width, and height of each rig. You can preplan routes in it and it helps find RV specific places. When not towing, we use Google maps via Android Auto.

Man what detail. Love the fact you documented, tracked and put everything together to help someone else when they find this when they want to do the same or similar. Great job and thanks!

This is feature I'm very interested in. I mean, you have it now but have you explored other ways to get that?

From what I understand, Ford's Nav will route for trailer height, if not other inputs.

Not that I can name them right now but there are other apps that do as well.

I have heard that Google maps may but also, that it will send you on inappropriate roads too. Dirt tracks, that go nowhere and should not have a TT on them.

I wish I'd made notes but I recently heard of one that not only watched for height conflicts but length (too tight turns) and even bridge capacities.

I want all those goodies but without the extra screen.

I've used google maps on PC to route plan, but it requires a lot of aerial zooming and redirects for areas that I wouldn't want to take a truck. The problem is once en route, Google will reroute however it feels. With the Garmin, I can plan and set a route on my couch along with checking Google on PC and it will follow it without changing it's mind. I just don't trust factory nav in any vehicle and I don't want to spend all that time sitting in the truck to plan it out. Plus, I like using the 12" screen for audio, phone calls, google maps double checks, quick hitch view, and other driving needs and having a separate dedicated RV GPS when towing. Same with tire pressure and the reverse camera on the trailer. I don't want to be constantly changing screens on either the center dash or the console when towing a 6500lb rig. It is very distracting when I just want to watch the road and have a few screens I can glance at without having to toggle to see what is needed.

Ok, I think we want the same things but your set up is busy. I understand the simplicity you're going for but busy.

Am I wrong in thinking the TPMS need not have a monitor in view? I was just gonna set fairly tight parameters on the alarms and not sweat having to watch it. Mine will be of a different brand (TST), so that might matter.

Looks like we've chosen the same trailer camera brand and that obviously has to have ready viewing. Especially since I'll also be using the side view cams, in lieu of towing mirrors.

I planned on using the onboard Nav but if it isn't up to the task, have no problem using a different source, whether on the main screen, or an auxiliary (including a phone).

I have a friend who teaches truck driving safety, I'll reach out to him and see if he knows what programs industry uses and if something comparable exists.

I know Garmin is good, just seems kinda spendy to me.

The furrion was preinstalled on the trailer and it also had the side marker cameras, but you have to toggle the view on the monitor and that is a huge distraction, so I almost never use them. I have a Tymate non-windshield TPMS, see pic, but it drove me nuts having to pick it up to look at it. I'll probably sell it soon. I don't want to wait for an alarm, I like to see things before they happen. Same reason I look at the truck air pressures when driving/towing. I drove tractor trailers cross country from 2001 to 2007.

By using the ball mounts, I have better view of the road compared to the suction mounts and without wires hanging over all over the center stack, it is way less busy/clutter and safer.

Just curious. What does the dedicated GPS unit do for you over something like google maps or apple maps?
