Just came back from a cross states, over 1000 miles, trip and I can't say enough about this mod. Thanks again @Kodiak !! It's not really for the purpose of "helping" when you want to pass, it simply significantly increases my situational awareness. I just know when a vehicle enters "my zone" on the driver's side. I look straight ahead and I just see the LED comes on. Highly recommended.
And the LED wires still tucked in in the connectors on both sides :D (reminder - I did not use tap-ins).
Thanks! The longer I have had this the more thankful I am that I was able to do this mod.

No more taking my eyes off the road and physically turning my head to the mirror when I am only thinking about if I want to consider a lane change. As you stated it just gives more situational awareness in a significantly quicker (and safer) method. The best BLIS I have seen is in my fathers Sante Fe as it has the BLIS info in the HUD. This is the next best thing.

BLIS was the big disappointment in the new 2023 F150 I test drove last week. The indication in the mirror is basically where the technology was when it was introduced 8+ years ago. Only the RAM gives the option to have an audio alert if the blinker is activated when the BLIS is positive, but the indicator is still just in the mirror (but indicator is larger/brighter than other pick-ups).

I have a new Telluride with a HUD. Having the BLIS indications in the HUD is a great safety feature. It also has the audio alert if the blinker is activated and a vehicle is in the blind spot. But it is more than just that. The increase situation awareness with the up-front indication is a big benefit. I cannot count the times in heavy traffic while trying to keep my eyes ahead on a changing traffic situation and have the BLIS indication in the HUD. Especially if someone is trying to pass me on the right. I am aware of the situation without even having to look and can adjust accordingly.

I hope to find a 2023 F150 or 2024 with a HUD. I'm thankful to see this thread because it will be a big BLIS improvement that I will install right away.

2024's should be hitting the dealers next month. If you are looking for a truck on the lot or ordering and you are not getting that great of pricing where you are, give Granger Ford in Iowa a look.

You cannot beat their pricing and they are total pro's at selling and online transactions. 2024's should have the HUD (I believe) and that might be worth a little wait. Also, if you do decide to wait, ordering a truck is a breeze with them and you can get exactly what you want, and nothing you do not. Good luck with your decision.

I was reviewing the 2024 F-150 Owner's Manual on how the HUD operates. I was pleased and excited to see that there is a BLIS indication, e.g., B!

Though I did think the top speed indication was a bit optimistic.

Having the BLIS information in the HUD is outstanding. Might be a little on the small side, but it is there and more/better information readily available is always a safety benefit.

Thanks for posting this find.

You should get a wood dowel stick that is the diameter of the light. Then cut it to the same length that would inside the mirror cowling. Blue Putty to hold it in place where you want it and then carefully put the cowling back and see if it hits before you drill. If you got the longer ones from the 2 links they did look a little on the long side. Good luck.

I had a similar plan a few weeks ago but life got in the way and I had forgotten about this mod until I saw it pop up in my watched threads this morning. A wood dowel is a good idea. I could just hot glue it or use some 3M double sided adhesive and see if it makes contact when I place the trim piece back on. Unfortunately it doesn't look like I can cut the shaft down any the way the wires are connected at the end.

That may be what I do if the LEDs I bought are too long. Thanks for the tip.

It may be in the manual, but like the Pro Access Tailgate...it's not on the order sheet yet.

I was able to test drive a 2024 Lariat 502A with a HUD last weekend. BLIS was a disappointment. The HUD in general is one of the best I have seen. Plenty of brightness, clarity, and vertical adjustment so it is not sitting on the hood. The rest of the symbology shown in the owner's manual appears while driving and using the driving technology.

Ford F-150 BLIS - Additional LED Mod (How To) 1711414448271-c3

The BLIS indication, however, only displayed when the blinker is on. Thus, the indication is reactive instead of proactive. Proactive would be displaying the BLIS symbol in the HUD anytime it is shown in the mirror which helps me realize what is occurring around my truck. Reactive is displaying when I am about to switch lanes. The 2024 Owner's manual states that, if the steering wheel turns into a lane with another vehicle in the blind spot, the F150 will counteract the drivers input to keep the truck in the current lane - not even an audio warning. I think this situation would startle me. I'd would rather have a proactive indication so I have time to control the situation, not the truck.

I included the HUD with BLIS display on my 2023 Kia Telluride. The display pretty much matches the instrument panel (no new/different symbology to learn). BLIS indications are the red hashes in the lower left and/or right and display anytime the mirror indications are illuminated. The gray boxes are all the vehicles that the system is tracking around the vehicle. It is such a relief to know a vehicle has entered my blind spot(s) without having to look in the mirror. All too often while I am focused on what is happening with traffic in front of me, an impatient drive darts from behind to zip by on the left (or right). I know from the HUD it is occurring and I can adjust as needed.

FORD, are you listening? Please give drivers the option to have BLIS indication in the HUD anytime regardless of the blinker status.

That is a disappointment. I had high hopes for Ford's BLIS in the HUD. The whole point is to deliver driving information before you make decisions, so you do not take your eyes off the road. This is so that information can go into your decision making. Once you decide to turn on your blinker you have already gone through some decision process and now you have another step to look at the HUD?

Once you have gotten to the "blinker" stage you probably are already turning your head from the road in front of you and looking at the side or the side mirror. IMO the whole point is to give you lane change information before you even start thinking about it.

This is better than nothing but this is taking the ball to 1 yard line and fumbling. :(
