I use (when needed) a piece of 2x8 cut to length and slid into the slots either side of the bed - that's what they are there for! See this post for a picture - the 4 vertical strips between the wheel-arch and tailgate.
I've used a 2x8 forever in the bed of my 2009 and 2016 F150's to keep things from sliding forward. Unfortunately, I noticed when I took a 5.5' bed 2021 XLT Powerboost for a test drive that the driver's side no longer has those slots. The one I drove and all the pictures I've seen are with pro-power onboard on the driver's side where the slots would be, but I doubt the sheet metal is different with or without that option.

Has anyone ordered and received the ML3Z version yet? Was looking to grab one up and see the difference...
Yes, I just got the ML3Z-99286A40-A and installed it on my 2021 Platinum with the 7.2 KW Pro Power. The bed extender appears to be the same as the one I installed in my 2015 King Ranch six years ago. The instructions are different in that they show the location of a dimple for drilling a hole in the work surface tailgate to allow the rod with the yellow handle to be inserted when the bed extender is flipped toward the back of the truck.

I didn't drill the hole. It seems stable enough without using the rod.
We used the ones on my previous truck without ever using the rod hole.. Unless you are really trying to secure something it's not really necessary..

Yep, as I said I'll just carry my old one over too and not use the peg. I find it hilarious that the new part number is the same hardware but new instructions ?

I saw on another thread someplace where someone used the same but had the wood line-x'd at the same time they did the bed

Just following up here. I installed my bed extender (from my 2017 moved to my 2021) and here are the pics. I included how I can plug my dogbone into the propower with the extender out of the way, and the tailgate still closed (since I cannot open it fully when the trailer is hitched).

Anyone have the extender and a bed mat? I have a black Armour bed mat and it’s very thick. Curious if it would prevent the pegs from engaging if deployed inward as a bed divider.

I'm 90% confident it would keep it just a tiny bit from the locking peg engaging. You may be able to remove the rubber feet entirely though.

unfortunately, my bed only has slots on one side. I don’t have pro power, but there is a 400 watt power outlet where the slots should be

Very nice feature. Is this called a tub on Amazon? Do you happen to have the brand and part number? I have the expandable cargo rod. Thanks !

Newbie here so apologize upfront if already discussed (could not find).

Has anyone used the Ford Bed Extender with a bed mat & cover (mine has a Husky & Retrax)? Concerned the added height of the mat will interfere with the "legs" when trying to fold out and/or close the bed cover.

Thank you!
