Behind the grille LED pod mounts: DIY install

Had some scrap 1x1 1/8” angle from a gate project. And since the welder and grinder were out and I was already a mess, figured today was the day I tinker with this. Pop out 2 shutters per side. Cut 2 short pieces and bolted them to the active air dam brackets in 2 spots per bracket. (That’s 8 bolts in the 1/4x20 1” long flavor). Than cut a 15-16” long cross piece, eye balled it, tacked it, checked with the pod light, and welded it in. The only non reversible portion is using a cutter to trim back the plastic for the air dam shutters. A smaller bolt would eliminate this issue.
Anyways, my plan is to run a splitter harness from the oem fog harness.
Pics or gtfo….. feel free to copy, refine, and enjoy. These are junky Lasfit pods. BD, diode dynamics, and rigid should all work as well.

i ordered this harness from amazon. Should allow me to plug the fog lights and LED pods in to the stock harness and use the OEM fog switch. I will cut the DT plug off and go with a 2 pin weatherpack as that matches my other harnesses for my BD lights. yes sir. just has a black vinyl overlay. did the same on the steering wheel and the tailgate emblem.

It was crazy simple vs other small lighting projects I’ve done. The active shutter system is super helpful for mounting stuff lol. Also don’t look too close at those bird sh1t welds.

wife’s 4runner has a piece of extruded aluminum with 3 Baja design XL pro’s mounted on it. Than 2 brackets extend from that bar through the lower grille into the bumper cavity, which than get bolted to 2 tall mounts which than go down to the frame rails. That was a pain.

I also realize I should’ve put this in the lighting forum…newb.

anyways, the starkey harness showed up. Cut off the deutsch connectors, added my 2 pin weather pack ends and reversed polarity, lights work as they should ( not well cause they’re China knockoffs of diode dynamics, but free is free)

nice....theyre a vinyl. not a sticker, make sure you use a heat gun during install and after to fully get them to stick on.
