I'm going to link this to the F150Lightningforum as there was a thread asking about this space last week. Cool mod!

It always perplexed me on why so little room in there. Adding this to my list. Awesome share thanks 🍻

What is the point of blocking off that space?

That is the question, isn't it. But I don't think I'll be spending any time accessing 2 cups of storage.

Seems like a great place to store some quick reach for bungee straps.

Saw this on YouTube, think I'll give it a try. The bins are nice put limited on space, this will help increase the size a little.

(111) F150 Bed Storage Box Modification - YouTube

Great news, I was able to remove the tray fairly easily using my tuck tool as shown in the photos. Never had to take apart the box and the tray is still in good shape. I was able to easily fit my entire ball and pin inside the enclosure and still use the cover.

Thanks again, this was a much-needed solution for me.

Nice, I still haven't done mine. I too am going to try to remove the shelf without removing the cover. Thanks for the info and photos!

Do you think the box is strong enough for extended use with a hitch rattling around in it?

I would stuff rags of something to keep it from bouncing around. It is just plastic and if it were to break open (which I doubt) you would lose your hitch. Plus, it's always nice to have rags handy also. I guess drilling out the plastic welds and replacing with bolts would make it stronger. But what do I know? Lol!
