Thanks!
So I took a look under the hood of my truck this afternoon. I must have gotten the most stripped down Lariat they ever made! Lol, no modules in the battery box, the smallest battery they could supply, and not even the small battery under the back seat!
The good news is that I have an additional 3 inches on one side , plus an additional 3/4" on the other side. So I definitely have room to put the H8 under my hood. Although I may have to separate the wrapping on the positive harness slightly to spread the cables far enough.

For comparison, this is what it looks like in a ‘21 Lariat 502a Powerboost. Because there is more than a battery in the battery tray, upgrading from an H7 to an H8 would be tough. There are certainly advantages to the simplicity of your configuration.

Thanks for posting the battery size info (I think :sneaky:). Based on that info, I think I was shortchanged on my '21 Lariat 502a. They put an H6/760 CCA under the hood. Next time I go in for service I'll ask about it. If they blow me off, I won't get upset about it. My past experience with batteries in new Fords hasn't been stelar. Once they go (usually prematurely), I replace 'em with a decent battery. It looks like there's plenty of room for an H7/800 CCA here.

Great thread guys. I have a loaded 502A Lariat with the H6 battery. I have tons of room on my tray. I’m going to get the biggest battery I can shoe-horn in there.

You should be able to fit an H8 in there. You'll also need the larger battery insulation wrap listed in the first post. The "C" version

Once done you'll have to reset the BMS. Easy way
Install the battery
Hop in the truck key "button" on engine off
Notice the battery icon on the upper right side. Glowing solid
Flash the highbeams 7 times
Step on the brake pedal 3 times
The battery icon will flash and then go solid.
Key off or button off.
Your done!

Thanks Big Dog.

This Exide Sprinter H8 battery seems to have good specs for the cost.

950 CCA, 96 AH

$129 at Home Depot.

No problem, you really have to stay with a AGM type battery not lead acid. To put it simply a AGM battery is a deep cycle battery of sort and is needed for duration during auto start stop events, as well as large OTA's which are done when the truck is parked, locked and off. Overnight software installs so to speak.. definitely stay with an AGM type battery.

Ah gotcha. My truck doesn’t have auto stop start and I have OTA’s disabled but I hear ya. That’s what the truck was designed for and I’m sure it’s important for reasons other than those.

Guys need your help!
I understood from this thread that:
- all battery trays are the same size
- H8 requires a bigger battery sleeve ( KL3Z-10A687-C )

But how the hell do I install with H8 battery correctly, if those battery sensors are getting in the way? Here is what my experience was with 2022 Powerboost: https://www.f150forum.com/f129/upgrading-12v-battery-522762/index3/#post7207105

I did manage to install it, but I had to remove those sensors and put them aside - meaning they cannot read battery temperature, etc.

Any help to upgrade my H7 to H8 is appreciated.

Any idea what could happen without the battery blanket installed? The local dealer replaced my bad battery under warranty but they didn't put the blanket back on and I didn't notice until a few days later. They also didn't reset the BMS but that doesn't surprise me, and I was able to do that myself with forscan.

I don't think it a problem, not having it. I've seen many Fords that have been missing them over the years. I really don't understand exactly why it's there in the first place. Is it to protect the battery from engine heat. Or help the battery when it really cold. I have no idea! 😉

Did you end up putting in the larger battery?

Someone put an AC Delco battery in this truck before I bought it. I have used the brand that's no issue but it's less than the 800 CCA listed for Lariat High.

The truck doesn't seem to understand when it's fully charged. Kept getting warnings with doing FDRS. Battery fully charged where my charger was in maintenance mode. So truck should see it 100%?

Yes, this January I stuffed an H8 in the truck. The O.E. H6 battery crapped out after 1 year, the dealer warranted it and I talked them into replacing it with an H7, then the H7 stopped maintaining SOC above 50% this past winter. So at that point I installed the H8, 4 months in it continues to maintain an 84 to 87% SOC.

The battery I have when I try to use the reset for SOC it never gets above 75%.

Lot of updates Ford wants 80%. Even when using FDRS. I just overrode it and installed anyway but maybe will be issue for future OTA updates. 🤷‍♂️

I set my SOC level to 90% in forscan, although this didn't help with the first 2 batteries in the truck it seems to have made a difference with the H8 I installed.

Good idea, I'll have to see if I can get SOC display on my app.
