I can picture my truck at ramp 59 with no computer chips and sitting on blocks with no tires installed.

"Rubber prices were already on the rise following a devastating leaf disease and stockpiling efforts by China, but now, snarled shipping lines are compounding the problem even further, driving prices up and leading to short supplies, according to a new report from Bloomberg. Meanwhile, automotive suppliers are scrambling to secure the material before things get worse, which is only adding to the shortage."

Sounds like just another excuse to raise prices, while hiding inflation.

Gum rubber hasn’t been used in tires for decades. After WW2, they discovered synthetic rubber is superior.

Even chewing gum is made from synthetic rubber.

Natural rubber is still used, though generally, it’s easily substituted.

I remember a rubber shortage in the 70s. Ford started shipping vehicles with no spare tire just the rim. Ten or twelve months later when rubber was in greater supply customers returned to get their spare mounted.
