There was a lot of concern about the new 5.0 with CD when the 2021s came out. When I was truck shopping, CD pushed me to the powerboost platform because I figured if I was going to roll the dice on reliability, I may as well get cool tech.

I think the last few years have shown it to be a reliable system. These days, 5.0 owners regularly dunk on us Powerboost owners about their better reliability lol. I'm not hating, those engines do not seem to have the CD issues that the GM ones have had. They are a worthy consideration. Buy with confidence.

Retired and not looking. The wife is looking for me.
The wife has a 2011 V4/V8 Yukon Denali XL 6.2 405 hp (premium recommended) with 204,000 miles. I have heard about cylinder deactivation and how bad it was. I have never had a peep of a problem. AMSOIL Signature 5/30 every 10,000 miles and AMSOIL EA017 filter every 5,000 miles. Zero oil consumption.

It does get mostly freeway/highway miles at speed. When I am on 2 lane highways I am not afraid to nail it. I have hit the speed limiter several times, most recently 3 times with about 197,000 miles with a lot of 2 lane going to San Diego.

On road trips it gets premium fuel since that was the fuel used to calculate hp/torque specs.

I hear of but do not know anyone that has ever been through the problem except on YouTube.

I have to assume Ford was paying attention. We will see on my 2023 F150 XLT.

You’ve been pretty lucky then because GMs AFM on the 2007-13 models was the absolute worst. I would say in your case Amsoil definitely saved the day.

To that point - being that the rockers in the 5.0 are activated/deactivated by oil pressure via solenoid, keeping your oil fresh will be key to its functionality.

I emailed range which makes the plug in device which turns off CD for chevy. They told me the don't have one for the Ford and it seemed like they weren't going to make one.

I'm surprised to hear they are still using pushrods at all! Wow. That's ancient tech.
The GM V8 is pretty modern and very competitive when they try.

They don't really try with the 5.3 though. The 6.2 versions are more than just bigger. I would assume a 5.3 done like a 6.2 would be 380-390 and that was from 2014. Very little has changed since then but there is a new generation coming. Hopefully they try and inject some passion into their trucks but I'm not holding my breath.

Not really. They are both 67 horsepower per liter.

There is absolutely no reason to do this. People have found the limits of the stock engine long before any CD failures have been identified. ..and an F150 is not a GM truck.

Get a tune. I recommend Oz Tuning. It's so worth it. The trans shift revision alone is worth it. Do it.

i would like to get a tune. but as i previously said, $700+ is a hard pill to swallow for a lot of these current tunes.

$700 for a NA tune that doesn't net much, I'd agree. For the 3.5l, it's a no-brainer.
