Wondering if the PowerBoost has a plastic oil pan and that stupid yellow plastic drain plug that the last generation EcoBoost changed to? From searching it seems like there was some back and forth changes on Ford's part from 2017 - 2020, so the only way to know on those trucks was to climb underneath and look.

I'll probably be over 1000 miles when I get my truck home from the dealer, so first thing the next morning I'll be changing the oil. If it has that stupid yellow drain plug I'd like to change it out so the second oil change will be easier and mess free. I want to order the Ronin drain plug and have it waiting, but don't want to spend $80 to find out they changed back to a metal pan and drain plug. Bob mentioned that his parts guy thought they went back to metal, but I'll believe that when I see it, or someone here confirms they've been under their truck and it is indeed metal.

Edit - Mickle confirmed the 3.5L EcoBoost has a metal pan and installed a Fumoto Valve on his. Still would like to hear from anyone with a PowerBoost to confirm it has the metal pan too.

Thanks,
Roger

Bump since I don't think this topic gets much viewing unless it is in the "What's New" category search.

Does anyone know yet what type of oil drain plug is on the 5.0 Coyote engine in the new truck? Does it have a metal pan with a conventional drain plug, or a plastic pan with the yellow plastic drain plug?

I have a V8 coming eventually, so I'm trying to plan ahead.

Thanks in advance for your response.

Bump, someone has to be getting close, or maybe I’m the only one that’s still old school about changing the oil in a new engine around 1000 miles.

I just did mine today, 700 mi break-in change. I used Castrol Edge full synthetic, which meets the proper Ford oil spec requirements, to replace the partial synthetic the truck came with. The oil filter is in a stupid spot in a stupid orientation, but otherwise the oil change wasn't too bad.
1 . Remove soft black panel by loosening (4) screws
2. Drain oil. Since the oil is low viscosity and comes out horizontally, I like to hold a funnel in between the engine and drain pan, rather then guessing where it will land
3. Remove and replace filter.
4. Clean up, replace soft panel, fill 6 quarts

So is it a standard metal drain plug in a metal oil pan, or is it a plastic oil pan with one of those stupid yellow plastic drain plugs? Thanks!

Is there an easy way to reset the oil change reminder on the onboard computer? I'm coming from a BMW where even changing the battery required the dealer to reset the computer.

It is an aluminum pan with a metal plug, so don't over tighten it.

And yes you can just reset the oil service on the dash menu like any "normal" car. If you think BMW is bad, try Porsche. You need to bring it to a dealer or invest in an expensive diagnostic tool, just to reset the oil indicator.

Sorry for more questions, but which direction is the drain plug oriented? Is it on the the side of the pan pointing to the side, on the back of the pan pointing back, or on the bottom of the pan pointing down? I'm trying to get a feel for how well a Fumoto Drain Valve would work, and how safe out of harms way the valve would be from being damaged or ripped out by road debris? Thanks.
