An Uncovered Peek At The 2021 Ford F-150 XL Grille

Thanks to a camo slip, we just got our best look at one of the grille designs destined for the 2021 Ford F-150.

The white prototype caught here—with its regular cab and smaller wheels—looks to be the humble XL work truck trim level. The front grille mesh came unstuck, giving us a good look at the all-new grille design which lies beneath. The grille treatment goes without the thick central cross bars that dominate the middle of the grille on today’s models, for a lighter overall look. The prototype's grille juts out prominently from the hood, which may promise a chunkier, more angular front-end treatment for the F-150’s redesign.

We also caught what appears to be the same grille somewhat uncovered, but finished in chrome, likely teasing the look of the F-150 XLT.

Not so much doubt as just a general risk of possibility. GM has done away with theirs and Ram doesn’t currently offer one anymore. (though they may bring it back)

RCSB’s hurt the manufacturer’s CAFE ratings and generally just don’t sell much. So with a new generation of truck the risk was there.

Interesting to know, thanks. Do you know if EV's count towards meeting CAFE standards? Maybe having the electric F-150 coming is helping keep trims like RCSB which hurt CAFE ratings.

Now they just need to improve the available options for RCSB. It's ridiculous that you can't order a short box with more bells and whistles.

EV’s and hybrids are extremely favorable in regards to CAFE ratings, as they use little or no fuel. Not only do they score well, but they also provide what are essentially multipliers for the manufacturer’s fleet MPG. So a single sale of an EV or hybrid might count as 2.0, 1.6, or 1.3 vehicles toward that overall rating.

If Ford offered more Bs&Ws I'd probably check all the boxes...Unfortunately, it'll be the same as in the past, XL & XLT. Sure wish they would build the RCSB Raptor they reportedly used as a test mule for the Bronco or next-gen Raptor!
