I wouldn't worry about the trans fluid until at least 30k. The filter is a true filter unlike screens that vehicles used to come with. The trans fluid is already a full synthetic and you're just throwing $ away for no benefit at 1k miles. The one thing you should do however is inspect your fluid level to make sure it's properly filled. There's nothing cheap about any of the ULV trans fluids in price or quality.

Ya know... the purpose of an early changeout is to remove any manufacturing dirt and debris hanging 'round. These transmissions are hydraulic machinery. Their clearances are tight. Any fine dust getting in can throw a monkey-wrench into what's doing. Fine dust can float around for awhile until it settles somewhere inconvenient. Are you throwing away good oil? Well yes... but that's not the point of doing it early. And checking fluid level along the way is a good side benefit.

Research the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act which will give you insight about how they can’t void your warranty for simply using other fluids that meet spec.

I highly doubt the dealership will install Amsoil for you though.

For the front differential because of clearance you can’t easily drop the pumpkin cover and there is no drain plug so you’ll have to suck the fluid out of the add hole. The rear you can drop the pumpkin cover or suck it out, but there is no drain plug!

For the transmission, within the last month or so, Amsoil came out with ULV fluid that is in a green cap. You’ll see old posts and information on using their blue cap fuel efficient fluid which they claimed would work in LV or ULV applications-but they don’t say that anymore since they now make ULV version. Also there is no transmission dip stick under the hood, it’s under a cover bolt on the transmission pan right beside the catalytic converter that is insanely hot. There is also no drain plug on the tranny pan. You could suck that fluid out through the dipstick cover/add hole too. The dipstick should be between 5-6 for hot transmission fluid on the non-powerboost transmission.

Don’t forget to maintain your transfer case fluid with LV transmission fluid too while you’re at it. This one is the easiest of all the above because it has a drain plug!
Will do Thank you very much for the information

Since I am reserve and not active I can‘t live on base, unless thats changed. I just always assumed it was for active duty only. Yes Minot gets very cold.

My 2022 Ecoboost has the 3.55 Electronic Locking rear. Was interested in changing the rear diff fluid and going with Amsoil. Using their website, it was recommended to use Severe Gear 75W-85 Synthetic Gear lube. While reading the fine print, it stated the gear lube contained friction modifiers for limited-slip applications.

I know it is not recommended to run gear lube without FMs in limited slip diffs. What about the opposite, is it bad to use a gear oil with FMs in an electronic locking rear?

A friend if mine is a retired prototyping engineer and we talked many times about the destructive testing he did on engines using various oils and how he was so impressed with Amsoil he started using it for all his own vehicles. I became a stocking dealer for Amsoil and have been using the oils ever since.

All the equipment and vehicles I have had since then, as soon as the oil change was due, it got switched to Amsoil and every change after that.

The finance manager at the dealership asked why I bothered with the extra expense of putting in "better grade" Amsoil than I needed to, when my trucks were leased, but I figure it is better to take care of the vehicle.

If one's goal is the next trade-in...decent oil is good enough. If you want your truck to go the long haul, as I do, then better oil is a good thing!

Agreed, but I want to make sure that I return the truck in as good of shape as possible, so a few pennies more to put in the better oil is always worth it to me!
