Have you considered looking for a trailer? An enclosed trailer provides both transportation and storage and expands your vehicle choice greatly.
Considered, but as my driveway is set up, no real good place to put it.

And to your point about a Raptor being a tough vehicle for a brand new driver. Yeah, definitely lol, don’t underestimate the challenges that would impose.

And shout out to FIRST. I was on my high school’s team for a few years, helped get me into my career in tech.

I'm in a similar situation.
Probably won't get a lightning order until 2023 but would like a new truck now.
Currently have a 2014 Raptor bought new.
Love the truck but I'm itching at the WORST possible time in the history of the world.
First inquiry made on a 21 Raptor:

I'd almost respect the honesty if they'd just list their out-the-door price on the website instead of misleading people with MSRP, but then they wouldn't be a good little dealership if they were upfront.

I stopped looking after that initial inquiry.
Slowly coming to terms with 2023 at the soonest.
I'm intrigued by some 2021 Powerboost models with the 7.2kw. Seems like there a few Lariats with good options on lots. But I'm anticipating wasting my time asking about them.

Unless you don't replace the current vehicle, you are going to lose most of the increased value by having to buy another vehicle at an inflated price.

If you can sell it but not replace it then go for it. But if you have to replace it, you're probably not really going to be that much ahead.

This is why I looked at Gen 1. Less games being played and most of the depreciation is done already. My Lightning dealer does have a Gen 2 in stock - 2020 used with ~20k miles. They want $1k over MSRP for it. Not horrible in this environment, but it wouldn't leave me with much (if any) equity when the time came to trade for the Lightning.

Yeah, that's what I did. There are definitely times it hurts only being a single vehicle household, but I work from home now so it's not too bad.

Went to check out the Raptor today and decided to pass. Too many small issues that I didn't want to deal with. Needed shock service, differential service, heated seats don't work, passenger mirror mechanism has issues and the coating is coming off the running boards. Nothing horrible, but not items I want to deal with on a relatively short term vehicle and things that will hurt trade in later.

Keep the current truck and buy ford stock instead.
Not a bad plan, focusing on paying down my current truck loan right now. Saving the interest is a sure thing

Thought I was done with this, but then my dealer told me they got no Wave 2 invites - which mean I have 0 chance for 2022 and maybe not even 2023.

Found another Gen 2 locally that seem like a good price - based on my best guesses at residual value, I come out ahead for anything over a 12 month wait for my Lightning based on asking price, and I think I can get them down some since it has been sitting for over 100 days.
