This thread is for compiled information on the generation 4 5.0L V8 in the F-150. Edited 8/5/2023. Updates include a larger 87mm throttle body, larger intake manifold, new camshafts, as well as new pistons and connecting rods. Not all the stuff is this video is correct but they do go over the 5.0 changes.

I also seen a video where the use a kevlar belt for the oil pump.

The 2.7 has had that since inception in 2015. I never saw or even heard of a failure before leaving Ford in 2021.

Here is a video explaining the cylinder deactivation. Looks like a well thought out design the way the cam/CD assembly comes out as a unit. Seems like an easier design to work on and a better design for reliability than the pushrod motors like GM and Ram. No head off repairs would be required on this OHC style, and issues seem unheard of so far.

As long as there have been no complaints from the 1.5L 3cyl Ecoboost about reliability due to cylinder deactivation (similar system), I think we can be pretty confident in the 5.0s CD, aside from maybe a slight delay in power on rair occasion.

Id think 2.5 liters for a truck vs 1 liter for a bronco sport seems about right. Time will tell.

Does this beast have two different serpentine belts? Look at this, I see both a fat belt and a skinny one:

By the way this material does confirm our engines have the same sinter forged connecting rods found in the gen 1 Boss 302 RoadRunner engine, that was one of my big questions. Probably part of the reason our motors are good to spin up to 7,000 rpm. For gen 3+ the short block is the same between the Mustang and F-150 with the same pistons. Only the camshafts and intake manifold vary unlike the older coyotes where they were two different engines.

Pardon my ignorance, so what "gen" do I have in my 2021 F-150, 3 or 4?

And yes, joining @OP, I would love to have some more detailed info about this engine. The material above is for the previous generation I believe.
