I was traveling on the freeway doing 70 mph or so, and when I was next to a semi truck, or a pick up with a large trailer they were towing, my adaptive cruise started to hit the brakes and slow me down. There was no vehicle in front of me just on the side of me. Have no idea what’s going on, has anyone else experienced this issue it scared me a lot. This happened multiple times to me at various speeds, and it did not seem to matter how close I was to another vehicle. The last time it happened to me there was a full empty lane in between me and the semi. Very scary when the roads are slightly slippery and you have vehicles who are following you to close.

This was a bit more common on 15/16 but was mostly taken care of in updates since then. You could ask you dealer if they can recalibrate the front sensor for it in case its off a bit.

This is an old problem that Ford do not seem at all bothered by - was very much present in the previous generation F150, I've experienced it many times in both my 2016 F150 and current 2021 model. Seems to occur with odd-shaped trucks, like car transporters, so I've learned to be careful ...

All that needs to happen is for a vehicle to drift close to your lane and it will slow you down. Even though I'm using cruise, I'm still paying attention to all vehicles around me and I'm ready to take evasive action if necessary. So if the truck decides there is something encroaching into my lane, I override the cruise briefly.

Also, don't use cruise if the roads are slippery.

Well, if someone is tailgating, it's time to change lanes, but tailgating – aside from being more likely than speeding to cause a collision – seems to be intrinsic to human nature. If only the tailgaters of the world would use adaptive cruise set to four bars. : )

As for adaptive cruise errors, I find the cruise will be cautious when I'm catching up to a truck in an adjacent lane or when the road is curving. Otherwise, it rarely makes mistakes. Sounds like your car needs calibration.

The only thing that bugs me about the cruise is when it decides the speed limit changed but there's no signs.

I'd also like some sort of alert when it starts to slow down by just 1 mph at a time as the distance to the vehicle in front closes. I sometimes don't realize I've been traveling slower than intended because I've caught up to someone.

Cruise controls are a look into human nature. When I'm on a long drive (200 to 1000 miles is not uncommon for us to get to favorite places to risk knee injuries) I will set the cruise for the speed limit plus 5 to 7 mph. So I'm cruising at 72 in a 65 mph zone and that will catch up to most other drivers. So I change lanes to pass them. As if compelled by some unconscious need to compete or to somehow avoid being "stuck behind" they speed up. Now we're pacing at 72 mph. Great. I don't want to be in an impromptu "precision driving demonstration" with the passenger side of my vehicle 6 feet from the door mirror of another car. So I accelerate to 75. Tap, tap, tap on the cruise. Still pacing. Slow back done to 70. Still pacing. Accelerate to 80 and start to leave them behind by a quarter mile or so.
A mile later, they're tailgating me at 72.
What the hell can you do?

Not to derail, but I'm wondering when the adaptive cruise control kicks in (say someone cuts you off) and it brakes dramatically, are the brake lights applied? I would think so.

I wondered this as well. I would hope so it happened to me coming back from PA and I didn't get rear ended so there is that :)

I have wondered this also. My first vehicle with this tech. Surely they are...??
