I feel like the 3.3 section needs a little lovin. So I’m here to report that I’ve currently done a little over 70k miles in 15 months of ownership and this little sweetheart hasn’t skipped a beat.
I bought this truck as my work truck (self employed) and it gets driven hard for 10+ hours per day going up/down mountain passes and on forest service roads with many miles of washboard torture mixed in. This truck has only been driven empty twice; all of my miles are with 1,200-1,500 lbs of payload in the bed or occasionally towing 5-7k of stuff on a flatbed equipment trailer. I average between 19-21 mpg with a payload (no trailer attached) KO2’s for tires, and the elephant ear tow mirrors for added wind resistance.
I do an oil change once a month, trans/diff service every six months, air filters every 20k and tires once a year. The 10r80 still shifts great, though it obviously has much less torque to stress it compared to any other engine in the lineup.
I should cross 100k by early-mid summer, and hope to get 500k out of it. I might be the only one that’s sad to see the 3.3 being discontinued, but I plan on testing the theory of the 3.3 being a durable fleet engine.
