Just got off the phone with my dealership and they were warning me that without a tow package a Powerboost Lariat (or any F150 really) is only warrantied to 5000lbs towing. They cited this page. It isn't clear on and/or on the F150 but since the tow tech 17T and trailer tow 53A are mutually exclusive I am assuming that tow tech and the class 4 hitch are enough to satisfy this? Anyone, especially a dealership have any insight into the warranty documentation's take?

I think we need someone WITHOUT ANY tow package, to take a pic of their hitch receiver. It has the ratings for straight on ball, and for using a weight distribution hitch. I think @Crapblaster posted his from the tow package the other day. It clearly said something like 11,200. So maybe you only get a class 2 or 3 hitch and that is why?

Right, but a lariat 502a has a class iv so it’s a mute point for me.

Another point of reference: from my former ‘18 with Max Tow.

Oh good point! I just think that dealer is wrong and has the 5000# number stuck in his brain based on the bumper pull rating.

To answer Keith, I still went with max on my PB (back when the delta was smaller) as I did not want to take any risk in not getting the most robust components, even though the way the specs were calculated it hurts payload on paper. I know we keep digging in an it is becoming more and more of a ripoff (for powerboost) but I'm gambling that it is not actually a weaker buildout.

What have we learned here? I'm lost.. Looking at a Platinum with no tow package and think it would be crazy if I'm limited to 5000#

do you have the tow technology package? Item “17T”. It appears that also satisfies the requirements to tow over 5000 and still not void the warranty. The tech package may not come with the upgraded brakes or better bumper like max tow but it does have the brake controller which may be why they require a package anyways. If ford determines you need certain equipment to safely tow without damaging the truck it must be something or things included with the tow tech package, trailer tow, or max tow.

Yeah, it will have the 701 package so it will have the tech package.. Very odd indeed..

I don't have any kind of tow package. Just the Tow Tech package.

I think 5000 is the bumper rating. Even the class iv satisfies this and is just poor documentation.

The Powerboost 4x4 701A 5.5' can tow up to 7,000lbs w/o TT package, though it can go up to 11,000 with the TT package. According to the documentation.
