Wanted a PB, order stuck in purgatory. I’ve driven a standard 3.5EB and it had great power. I’ve yet to get to drive the 5.0 and was curious how it compares. I found one close by and it ticks all the options boxes we want. I won’t be towing. Strictly running the fam around and house chores stuff. Is the 5.0 comparable seat of the pants feel wise? I like the idea of the v8 simplicity. Appears to get decent gas mileage too. I be been accused of driving like a grandma ha.

anyone out there owned or driven both that can give me a comparison?

I have zero experience with the Powerboost, I don't know if I have even seen one. I do have the 5.0 though and while I don't get good MPG, some people are. For what you are describing, if you aren't hung up on the special Powerboost features and you won't be towing or zipping around; you would be fine with the regular 3.3 V6 but really a V8 Lariat is going to be the best value features wise in the four door F-150.

Mostly rural with little city traffic. Around 19mpg.
Hesitates a bit under hard acceleration at speed, like it’s trying to decide what gear to go into, but once it collects it’s bearings—yee-haw. Freeway speeds consistently at 80.
My lifetime average over 15k right at 19

My '17 was a 3.5 extended cab, my '21 is a regular cab short bed 5.0, it's really apples to oranges to use the cliche. The '17 always brought a smile to my face when mashing the go pedal, the exhaust tone at startup was good with a resonator delete, but stock sounding after that. The 5.0 has the same feel passing a vehicle, but not out of the hole. I chalk that up to the 3.5 having 3.73's and the 5.0 having 3.31's, but gears aside the visceral feeling you get from the noise the 5.0 makes up the difference. Once I installed the Roush exhaust on the 5.0 I can't help but grin every time I drive it. I'm getting roughly the same gas mileage as the '17 so that's a plus. I rarely see the silly cylinder deactivation so that hasn't been an issue either. In the end it's your green so whatever makes you happy.

Echoing what's been said, basically...

I had a 2019 3.5EB full bolt-ons, and man that low-end torque is great for giggles - my (basically stock) '22 5.0 doesn't have that. As has been said, there is a smoother-feeling power delivery with the v8 - and has also been said, that exhaust note is a beautiful thing (and great for giggles in its' own right!).

I'm getting 15.5 mpg currently, driving fairly conservatively. The 3.5 I was getting anywhere from 12 all the way to 20, depending how I drove it. All in all, I felt like it was possible to get better mpg out of the 3.5 vs. the 5.0.

I definitely don't think you'll be unhappy going with a 5.0 as a daily, as I have - just don't expect it to feel the same as the 3.5.

4K miles on my 2021 SCab 6.5, F150 XLT, 5.0 / 4x4 /3.31 rear. 20.3 MPG current avg. with awesome power. If I only get on it hard when necessary, the mileage stays up, keeping RPMs in the 1.5 K to 2 K on highway commutes... it's running great!

I have the 5.0 as a DD. I love it. Fantastic power and I get great gas mileage. I drive 108 miles round trip daily. Weekly, I am 95% HWY and 5% city. I average 24mpg. On warm days, I can get 26mpg. And yes, that is hand calculated. My idiot meter in the truck usually shows about 1 to 1.5 mpg better.

I drive like a normal human being. I obey the speed limits. Whatever the speed limit sign says, that is what I drive. I don't dog it because I don't see the point. I take off smooth and I don't slam on the breaks. I am completely stock.

Mine is a 5.0 supercab

I opted For 3.73 gears for the truck to be better around town (engine seems to work easier) kind of like a skinny guy with big legs on a bicycle

I have to say I have zero complaints. Roughly 60/40 highway city and I average 19MPG

plus you can make fun of your friends with Honda civics when you can do this:

I ended up buying the 5.0 (3.31) Lariat last week. Really happy with it so far. On the 180 mile drive home from the dealer I averaged 23.9mpg. Around town I'm seeing 19-20. Super impressed! Plenty of torque and power around town for me so far. I test drove an EB over a year ago and have forgotten how much power it has. I guess those trucks are even more of a rocket. Super impressed so far with the 5.0 for our needs. It sounds fantastic too which is a nice bonus.

Not sure what I'll do when my 502A Powerboost order arrives at some point. I'll probably go check it out and have them run numbers to see if it makes sense. Otherwise, so far I'm really content to probably keep this truck.

--I have not driven the hybrid, only a 13th gen 3.5--

I daily drive my 5.0. Mostly for work, 99% city. 14-16mpg depending on how many traffic lights hit me. Took it an a couple longer trips on the autobahn and got 19-22. I didn't get the 5.0 to save money or gas. I wanted a Lariat and didn't want the 2.7 turbo. If the 3.3 was available, I would have stayed with it. I can't justify the extra cost for 3.5 turbo or the 3.5 turbo/hybrid. The gas savings would take years to break even. If I invest the money upfront, I will probably never break even.

Here is my mileage on my 5.0 round trip from Freeport, Maine to St. Agatha Maine...about 810 miles. Spent a week in St. Agatha. Used Blue Cruise on Interstate 95. Eco mode set Blue Cruise between 70-75 mph. Happy with the result of 20.3 mpg.

Does anyone think the cylinder deactivation kicks in on the highway in eco or normal modes?

I feel like i can hear it kick in below 35-40 MPH but it's hard to hear it at highway speeds.

a quick drag calculation shows 276 lb of drag at highway speed and 93 pounds around town. Maybe it's enough to kill the deactivation circuit
