4hi clunk

Just curious about it, maybe you guys can help me out. Been a GM guy, not used to ford systems. At the beach watching Elsa today. Sand is soft, probably a foot or more deep. I noticed turning while backing up in 4hi I was getting a nasty clunk after about 10 15 feet. Not 4a (spinning to lock it in or not), not 2hi, and surprisingly not 4lo. At first I thought it was just the tires at different speeds and some driveline clunk but it's on very soft ground and only in hi, not low range. Just want to make sure it's normal. Thanks yall.
