I honestly don't remember
10-4 —— just curious as I await to start driving my EB after I have it blacked out and paint protected. I drop it off tomorrow morning to have all the work done on it. Will have it back in 7-10 days!

i am still only getting 17.6 to 17.9 at highway speeds and it feels like something is pushing back against the truck like a strong headwind, but its getting this in either direction and no headwinds

First tank of gas in '22 4x4 averaged 19-20 mpg. Somewhat flat roads and very hot temps 95+. I got that highway driving 60-70 MPH and also around town , 35-50 MPH with stops.
After Level and 34" Tires I have calculated 17-18 MPG in similar driving conditions. so a ~ 1 MPG loss. I say calculated because my speedo is 5.6% off due to the wheel circumference change. my MPG, DTE and Trip miles are all 5.6% understated. Time for Forscan

I’m seeing the following numbers and don’t understand what’s going on. Can someone explain?

2022 EB Platinum. 36 gal tank. Driving mostly local roads @45 mph.

Odometer is 1512 miles.
Average MPG is 16.6.

With 98 miles showing on the miles-to-empty gauge, I filled the tank which took 25.5 gals. That means I had 10 gals remaining before the fill. After the fill, the miles-to-empty was 560 miles.

Why is the miles-to-empty gauge so off?

The DTE (miles to empty) is a constantly changing 'best guesstimate' based on your most recent past miles and associated mileage. If your most recent miles were at a low MPG, the miles to empty will be a smaller value than if your most recent miles were at a high MPG. And yes, due to that it's possible for DTE to go from fewer miles to more miles and back again or vice-versa even as you are using gas to drive.

Bottom line, the vehicle has no way of knowing how you will drive, terrain, load, etc in the future, so it can only go by what your most recent past behavior is; change that behavior and the DTE will change, too.

I don't know how many miles into the past the algorithm considers, but it's certainly much less than the miles a tank will carry you (IOW, the MPG average since last fill up isn't any indicator for estimating DTE).

Lesson: Take the DTE with a large dose of salt unless you have been driving in very consistent instantaneous MPG conditions and will continue to do that for the remainder of the tank.

The advantage of the large 36-gal fuel tank is that I seldom worry about how many miles before I need to stop for gas. I tend to fill the tank when it is half full to avoid problems with the dollar limit at gas stations. With Exxon/Mobil making billions in profit each month and pay $6 a gallon for regular gas it is easy to hit the credit card limit at gas stations. I can get around the problem but easier to add gas a little more often.

I am old enough to remember when war profiteering was illegal in the USA. Now the oil companies are setting both foreign and domestic policy in this country.

Buyer2021, thanks for the reply. I’ll let MTE indicator drop to single digit then fill to see what comes back. The odd aspect of this is I have not carried heavy loads, or traveled off paved roads.

Nothing odd in that at all. Just the normal MPG variations associated with urban / suburban / highway / idle-time mix can have a meaningful impact.

Again, the DTE displayed upon filling the tank has nothing to do with how close to empty it was before filling, it has everything to do the the MPG experienced in the recent miles prior to the fill up (that's the basis for the future miles guesstimate).

well i feel better i have 17.7 showing right now for instant mpg
i drive mostly once a week to doc and back its right 30 miles round trip
last few weeks i go a different way as the main road is being repaired repaved
so i take a 2 lane farm road with winding curves and rolling hill, i set 60 mph and let her rip
still only 17,7

then maybe trip back town to grocery store or i take my wifes car

but at 75 plus on toll road its not doing what i expect and feels like its being pushed backwards the whole time

Highway 55-65mph 19ft lund tyee = 12.5mpg
Highway 55mph 22ft aluminum enclosed trailer half loaded =11.8mpg
No trailer highway driving 60mph = 18-20mpg+ can baby it and get 23-25.
I had a 2020 GMC 6.2 and 3.5 ecoboost has been about 1-1.5mpg better while towing. And about 3mpg better with no trailer.

I got 21.5mpg regularly with my 2015 157”4x4 with 3.5 eco & 3.31 rear end. It averaged 20.6 over 7 years & 230k miles when including occasional towing, hauling, & off roading.
